GIDustin your swamp thread

Right now I have 4 versions of this file:

The FIRAXIS original
Your version
My version with more water
My version with more water and darker

If you want to look at any of these, let me know, and I will post it. Otherwise, I think that this will work unless there is something else you want to try . . .

I dont really think we need to change the mountain and hills files if i leave it the correct brightness.

k if you can get a good color thats great, honestly i think the one you made with more water but not darker would be the best so far. in fact i think we should say its finished unless you have something else and we should post it in the grahics section and put both of our names as the creators, if you would do that, that would be great.

tell me what you think

Ok. I went in and made it so ALL squares between two pieces are water, I also added some "shrubbery" in the water so it is not so plain, and I changed the water from one color to an array of 5 (shown in pic). I think it is done. :)

I will post both a preview and the final PCX. The mountain/hills version of "jungle" will stay the same.

Does the water look too, hmm, square? It kinda does, but I dont know if there is much we can do about that. If you wanna take the pcx and do some more, be my guest. I think that some of the tiles have too sharp of edges.

GIDustin

you should get rid of the trees and just make it dark, mushy, icky land where it's visable that is slopes into water but you can still walk on it. if you have the trees, even though swamps have trees, it's just not going to look right.

We have basically two choices: Make it stick out as in the image above, or have the grassland patches every here and there. I guess it is up to you which you think is better.

Sween32: You mean have just water and shrubbery? No trees?

GIDustin

Yeah, just make it black water. I can picture it in my head but I can't describe it. The edges should be like a bank into the water. the water is black goo.

Although it's really not correct, it's the best way to represent a swamp in the game and know exactly what it is if you've never seen it in the game before.

Just like so: (except make it creepier and darker)

yeah i noticed Sween32 has a good idea, but one fault. If we put shore around the swamp then each square will be surrounded by land. Kinda see what I mean? It is hard to explain.

I agree that one area looks square. In order to fix it, we must get rid of some of the water below the actual trees, and in doing so we gain the grassland spots we had earlier.

I am almost out of ideas. I was oringally thinking to change ocean into swamp as it is already a liquid and it would be easier, but then we have to do sea and coast as well.

Any ideas are welcome.

GIDustin

yea what i think it is is the fourth row is the 'coast' i'll check that really quick, i org. had all four rows with 'swamp' water but i had the same thing happen so i just did everything to the first two rows so if we pinpoint which ones are on the coast then all we have to do is put the water inside the jungle and none on the outside i'll try to figure out which ones are the coast

If there is a row dedicated to coast, then our problems can be solved real easily as the tiles next to water do not need the extra water at the bottom to cover hidden grassland.

This is going to be for my Magic: The Gathering mod and when I picture the "land" back then, I think murky, dark, etc. Do you think that the ocean/sea/cost water should be darkened as well? I could probably do it but I dont want to start until i see if it is a good idea.

Thanks for all your help. Couldnt have done it without you. As soon as you find out what controls the coast, let me know and I can copy/paste those tiles back to before my "squaring".

GIDustin

hey yea i guess darker ocean/sea/coast would be good, you could also maybe use the steppe i made as your tundra alterantive if you wanted.

give me about an hour to try and figure out the coast/jungle terrain stuff.

This is the PCX where the bottom two rows are not squared off. It looks good to me on a random map i made, but you check it out too to be sure.

GIDustin

Edit: You should also put links to your stuff in your signature so i dont have to go hunt them down :p

hey, i sorta did my own test i just put dots on all the stuff untill basically all the jungle coast were covered with a colored dot here is an example and so yea i was right the rows 3&4 are basically for the coast here is an example of what i did

here is the image

k several things i tried it and it looks very good now i just changed one of the the 3rd row and the last one now i think all the coast are just fine

and thanks for the suggestion i will try to change my sig to give the link for my units, and graphics

hope its good to go now it has my go and now we need yours, if you like post it in the graphics with both of our names as the creators i say we both did the same amount of work.

test it first here is the file

I think it looks good. I shall post it in the graphics forums after I am done with this. Also: I am 80% done with darkening all the water. It is kinda hard doing the coast as I want to darken the water, but not the land, however I did find a way around that.

Thanks for all the help. Your name will be posted in the MTG Mod Credits.

If you do decide to make Sween32's idea for swamp, let me know. I am curious as to how it turns out.
