Gigamap Scenerios

I guess that would be a scenario on a gigamap... :p

A gigamap is a map with a surface over 10,000 (well, over 10,922 really).

While the "official" max is 10,000, Civ2MGE and civ2ToT can really handle maps up to 32,767... So some people have gone and made such gigamaps and made scenarios on them.

Um, I think, or I rather guess, that a 32.767 map is quite implayable. Also the cities are very far away on scenarios with such maps, and units can't have a movement of 1.

How do you exceed the 10,922 tile limit?
World maps could certainly be bigger --if only for an increased level of realism in terms of proportion.

Just use the "Custom Size" option in the map editor, I'd assume. I agree, however, that gigamaps are virtually unplayable. They take forever, an one has to have ridiculous road movement multipliers to make them work.

Best way is to use the MapEdit util (which you can also get from this site) to enlarge an existing civ2 map, or to convert a .bmp file to an oversized civ2 map, which can then be further tweaked in the civ2 map editor.

Yep... You can use MapEdit to create your own blank maps. You can then edit those using the map editor.
If you have ToT, you can download the standard MGE civ2 map editor from my site. That editor has also been edited to allow the creation of gigamaps.

Use Julius Brenzaida's "no-limits" patch if you want random-generated gigmaps.
