You may be alone. I keep Sid in the rotation just as much as the other levels, but for some reason it doesn't usually generate many entries.

I will definitely be on this! Bartlett - give it a try. Try it with Byzantines - dromons are great equalizers on an arch map - you sink a few AI galleys with bombardment and they run and hide.

Course, taking their land is still.. interesting.. but it's kind of fun. Of course, you can't survive if you are stuck on an island with a Sid AI by yourself...

 I wonder why?

Histographic and Sid? Either one of those is likely to make me think twice!!!!! I'll see but I doubt if I'll try this as I've not played much over the last two weeks anyway.

If anyone does do it, a small storyline would be very interesting, if you can find the time of course.

I've tried a couple of times, using the Handy strategy, but I run out of steam. I know for a fact that I can't complete this inside a month. I *might* have one on a small map that I could resurrect...

I will be doing this one :) am debating - what is the best civ? Maya, for agri/industrious? Byzantium?

Histographic on a small map shouldn't be too bad, time wise - Sid just makes the battles more interesting ;)

Histograhpic?

:p

And I think best civ depends on the map. Archi it's Byzantine, the others I would choose the Maya or Iroquois.

well, for an actual histographic, a better score will likely be found with dutch than byzantium, because the dutch are agricultural, so you get more food faster.

Dutch also have the advantage of really good defenders (4 defense pikes), which are important to deal with the huge numbers of attackers a Sid AI will throw at you when you land on their shores. I've never successfully invaded a Sid homeland, because I have gone in with too few defenders and had the hundreds of archers wipe out rifles. yes - archers wiping out rifles.

well, I think it's fairly unlikely you can make it to 2050 on Sid and lose. I would think that the AI would have launched it's spaceship by then if it was large enough to have a higher score than you.

I've started - I actually am trying a fast conquest, then growth approach with the Aztecs. It's not working so well yet.. but it's lots of fun :)

I'll also try a more traditional approach, though with rome! and i have found it possible to get the slingshot on Sid!!

A) no AI that start with alpha
B) min writing (usually end up getting beat by the AI), then max philo
C) trade for CoL with philosophy and money when you get philo
D) Select republic with the free tech

It doesn't always work - in fact, I've also played games where the AI beat me to everything - russia had started out with an insane start position and had about 20 towns by 1200 BC and was pulling in 158 commerce a turn.

In my opinion, the best score would result from doing it with a civilization such as Egypt, Celts, or otherwise on a small 80% pangaea, then cruising to 2050 AD.

Then again, the more land the better score, but the more monster the AI gets.

This is feasible, just look in the HoF for Small Pangaea Sid Domination victories with Egypt and what not. Still not easy, but still...

The "Handy strategy" doesn't ring a bell with me. Do you have a reference?

This I guess.

It's a great read BTW so if you haven't seen it before I suggest you take a peek. So is this from mark1031.
