You may think that contemplating suicide makes you an expert - but depression _is_ a mental illness. We're talking clinical depression - not "oh noes, i had a bad day".
All this discussion should be beside the point though - if she committed suicide due to an illness, that still arguably absolves the adult. If you think she's just a silly kid who chose to kill herself, again you presumably don't think the adult is to blame - either way, we should agree that people don't kill themselves solely because of something like this.
Having said that, even if an adult's actions is just the straw that broken the camel's back, given that she intended to cause harm, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that she should share some (civil) liability. And as I said, since we're talking about an adult with a child, I'm surprised there's not criminal laws which cover it (e.g., impersonating a child and then flirting with them, isn't that covered by any of the child abuse/grooming laws?)

My friend met a girl on myspace and they were dationg for a week when she got into a car accident and died, my friend was all depressed, then another week later he found out she was made up by another one of my friends. It was very sad and he doesnt even like to admit that it happened.

i like all the internet tough guys/hard asses talking about how this is just evolution in action. I truly believe they have a mental defect that is either related to not have any emotional attachment to the world, or not having the capability of such an emotional attachment. Either way, they most likely wont procreate due to their socially unacceptable attitude towards fellow human beings, thus earning long term Darwin Awards themselves.

elaborate practical jokes are kind of funny. also, they werent "dating" since they didnt really go on dates.
on the other hand, one shouldnt prey on the emotionally weak, especially when most people that age are emotionally weak.

An being 21.. trying to avoid procreating is quite high on my priortys.
who said anything about animals? animals can go to hell for all i care. there is a far cry between being cruel to animals and saying that someone who committed suicide did the world a favor, etc etc. Animals arent people and people actually deserve caring and respect. when someone shows a distinct lack of empathy for the suffering of another person and actually claims they deserve that, well you just look like a prick.

yeah, but the fact youre saying someone emotionally weak deserved such a fate...its stupid and unnecessary on a few levels. I find it sad that someone did something like that because they were emotionally weak, I don't go around high fiving other people that some teenage girl offed themselves.
and no one is saying "that you should be like that girl". people are saying, dont be a dumbass and take glee in her death.

It is not that I take satisfaction...it's more like that I am indifferent to it. Well perhaps a bit of scorn and mockery because:
a) she offed herself (scorn - you always have a choice and she chose the easy way out)
b) and for a completely stupid reason. (mockery - for a guy from the internets she never even met!?)
being indifferent would mean you wouldnt take the path of least resistance and point out the obvious; she killed herself for a stupid reason. being dead is enough punishment for that though. you don't need to Mogadishu her on top of it.
although I find the fact that parents were behind it to be really ridiculous/awful. the idea that adults could stoop to such a childish level/tactic is worth much more mockery/scorn than the girl who offed herself.
