I just won a pre-patch Diplomacy victory on Warlord, huge mape, 8 opponents. My starting position was rather poor -- island, few resources, ocean to cross to get to other continents.
Anyways, after I got contact with another civ and traded for communication with others, I tried a novel strategy to catch up on techs and gold... I offered the weakest culture civ one of my cities in trade. The city was size 2 in the middle of a desert but surrounded by bigger cities. The AI offered me a sizeable offer for the city. And soon I got the city back with cultural reversion. I actually pulled this trade off 4 times.
Anyone ever done this? Would it still work in the patched game? I think it does sort of break the "no human would fall for it" rule.
