on my last terra map, barbs had conquered an entire continent. they had size 12/13 cities, big culture and riflemen and grenadiers

Psst, if you manage to lure a group of chimps into your kitchen, then you can attend other things for a while, then reclaim the kitchen and a tasty three course dinner, just like that! Sometimes their choice of wine is also pretty much to my liking!

And wioneo, it isn't that tough to keep a unit alive to 17 XP (less for Charismatic leaders)--just make sure you don't do anything stupid. I typically use all my great generals as military instructors, so and I am still able to build Heroic Epic early on and West Point during the Industrial era, at least. I admit getting a unit to 26 alive without a Warlord is tough, but not impossible. I once had a triplet of city raiding Samurais in vanilla, each around 60 XP.
