GL & megapolis problem

I've read of this problem on the forums , & would like to state it fully here , & would like Firaxis to address this issue in their next patch ( if there is one) . Imagine that you are going for the megapolis strategy , where your megapolis is defended by only one elite mech. inf. , as you have to mobilise your military for an invasion of the Zulus on your western flank , when a world war breaks out & your allies declare war on you . Then , up come two AI spearmen , & turn the mech. inf. to a GL . The other spearman had no movement pts. after moving adjacent to your city . You have to either vacate the city and save the GL of lose the GL and get reinforcements in the next turn . You're going for cultural win with your 45+ culture megapolis , which is about to build another wonder , but you have the agonising choice of either vacating it & losing the age bonus , or losing the wonder you so desperately need for your civilization . Is there a solution for this problem ?
 
Your premise is incorrect. The unit in the city will not transform into the GL. You'll just get a GL out of the bargain. It's a spontaneously created unit.

Oh, and by the time you have Mech. Infantry, you should be able to draft a unit out of your city.
