What is global warming?

I read in a couple posts that if you nuke too much, global warming will come. What is it and what does it do?

Global Warming will start appearing in your game in the Industrial Ages (around the time of factories, coal plants, hydro plants, etc - there's a list of pollution producing improvements in the editor). Global Warming is represented by a sun in the info box in the bottom right of your screen. The brighter it is, the more global warming there is.

Global warming turns grassland into plains, plains into desert, and I think (?) jungle/marsh into grassland. Basically, it turns good terrain into worse terrain...and yes, nukes can increase the chances of more global warming, as do factories, and other pollution improvements, as well as a high population. To combat global warming, you can build a recycling plant and another improvement I can't think of right now (maybe someone else knows) to lower the chances of it. That, and having a lower population, not building pollution causing buildings, and not using nukes.

I think cost turns to marsh, sea turns to coast, and ocean turns to sea, but I'm NOT surem can anyone clarify it?

The other building the mass transit saru.

I don't think that it affects water tiles.

Another thing - I think it affects Jungle/Forest/Marsh before other tiles.

? Grassland gives more food than plains.

Yes, but plains always give a shield and when irrigated, act as a bonus grassland.

Global warming doesn't affect water tiles.

Just keep your land clean and build polution controling impr. ( see Ginger_Ale and Tomoyo ) and it won't get that far. ;)

But a grassland mined acts like a bonus grassland.

The only reason you would want plains is if you have a high food city and it can't stay at size 20 or the size you want it without specialists. The plains would help max its production.
