Jeff Briggs is right when he talks about the victory by globalisation.
Imagine that in near future the USA throw a worldwide UN protected referendum

o you wanna be american?
US arguments would be those:What divides the people and create wars?Cultures,languages and nationalities.
Imagine a world where american english would be the official and only language,the american culture would be widespread and of course everybody would be "american".
No more war,no more misery and american democraty promised.
B4 globalisation,people were proud of their country,culture and language...but now immigration is growing more and more and demographs say europe will have to open its border to millions of people per year to conserve a positive birth rate in 2050.
So...are you sure people would refuse that "american Babel Tower"?

Well I think that the world would become whatever civ started the sequence after becoming powerful enough with enough culture...Or whatever the requirements would be.
