So it was toward the end of the game, everyone had his or her own continent, war had been nonexistent for 1000 years. But then my oil ran dry. A bit into the Aztec empire was an oil supply. So I massed my 7 remaining modern armors, a dozen or so mech infs., and a couple of settlers & workers, and sent 'em across a very wide ocean to fight, with battleship bombardment, etc.
In the process of carving out a chunk of the Aztec empire via razing cities (so I wouldn't get reassimilated), my precious modern armors spawned 3 great leaders in the course of the campaign (I had heroic epic from way back in the day, and this was the first game in which I had ever gotten a leader), depriving my forces of vital massed offensive mobility to consolidate my hold on that corner of the continent.
Sure I suppose I could link up the mech infs into armies to defend the toe hold, but I would really rather have the modern armors. Any better suggestions?
