Seriously, since I've never done it and was thinking about it, how hard is it to GM a dip email game? I'd like to hear what all of you experienced GM's and players have to say on the subject before I even consider doing such a fool thing. Like I don't have enough to do already. But, I thought it would be interesting to do in order to look at the game from a different perspective. Thanks in advance.:) :) :)

Double-check your orders and don't get lazy :p.

If you have good willpower and good eyes it's not difficult to do. Unfortunately, I have neither ;).

Don't be like the a$$hole who GM'ed my Redscape Tourney game: don't be late with turns, then shorten the next deadline as a consequence, don't insult the players and take sides.

In my experience, I found it wasn't too hard if people gave in their orders, otherwise you'd be chasing them up and having to sort out what to do in an NMR. But I think it is alot less stressful GMing diplomacy to actively playing it ;)

I find it best when the GM is fair and somewhat strict. Give people 24 hour notice before moves are due and allow players the right to emergency postponements, but once the deadline passes and they are still silent, then it is imperative you apply the NMR (no moves received) so that the game keeps moving. Generally two consecutive NMR's merits removal of the offending player.

Also, you don't need to be an expert in adjudication if you use the RealPolitik program - it also gives wonderful maps. In my game, I would always insert a hyperlink to the website hosting the game in adjudication e-mails to the players, thus encouraging them to view the thread and make public comments, which generally makes the game more intriguing not only for those playing, but for casual observers as well.

If you need more detailed info, PM or e-mail me and I will go over specifics.
