This is an idea for a mechanic where at the start of the ancient era, renaissance era and modern era you get to choose a goal/ambition that act as a quest with bonus for completing.
You can complete the goals chosen by other civs and therefore complete multiple goals and block others from them as each goal can only be met once.
To be able to know and complete another's goal you need to have met that civ, you can also see the current progress and the progress of any other civs you have met on that goal.

some EXAMPLES of what some ancient era goals could be.

Land Grab

bonus for completion: +5 gold per turn for every city besides your capital that you control
progress counter tells you how many cities each civ gas founded.

People of God
