Gods and Kings keeps on crashing when loading game

Hello everyone.
Now the problem I am having is whenever I start up a scenario of 22 civs and a couple of city states on Rhyes map, my game crashes before it gets to the loading screen with my leader that I choose. Now this Rhyes map is a smaller version I created so it would lag less then the original, and it used to run perfectly with vanilla civ. I named this map "22 civ Rhyes" (something like that but very similar). I have already tried Gods and Kings and it works, its just this scenario that I try where it crashes. I even tried a similiar map (the original Rhyes map) but again it crashes.

Does anybody know how I should tackle this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Edit: I tried the map through the set up game from Single player, not through the mods menu and it works fine. So i doubt its it map itself. Could it be the amount of civs? or the game has a problem with their start locations?

Edit: I tried the map through the set up game from Single player, not through the mods menu and it works fine with 22 Civs, therefore I doubt it is a problem with the amount of Civs. I also tried that trick with the config and switching the GameCoreTread(Something like that) to 0, but it still did not work.

Alright, I found the solution, and it is so stupid!

Turns out (for me anyway) that if you make a custom map with two civ's starting points closer than 4 tiles away, the game will crash while loading.

Would that make it a bug?

I have the a similar issue where the game crashes when loading a saved game. Just got the Gods and Kings expansion. Playing on a huge map, never happened before the expansion pack. Also I do not have any special characters in my username and verifying local cache did not result in any problem files. Tried adjusting graphic settings, no change. Memory does not seem to be an issue, 8 GB and as mentioned never happened on saved games prior to expansion.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That is odd Jeff, I had the problem with that same problem once. Is this a vanilla save file with a vanilla map? Or do you have mods enabled/using your own created map?

Also for an update to my senario, the map started crashing again. I have attached my map that I am using. It requires (to my belief) God and Kings, Spain, Denmark or Sweden or the Vikings (can not remember), basically if you have all the dlc, you are good to go. Let me know guys if this map can load on your pc. Thanks!

I am on turn 7 and have already encountered something I have never seen. There are only 16 city states, but I ran across one that had not settled yet. This may be normal, but perhaps there is not enough seed room on this map?

I just loaded the map up with my current settings. Not sure yet if it is the map or your scenario that could be causing your crashes.

I found 3 city states just walking around. Took them and lost 20 setting influence with city states, but it seams that it really had no effect of all. Gave me three easy workers though, but nothing yet for them to do.

I played this map for 8 hours, saving and loading, I only used about 6 civs though. It has not given me one issue. I am on turn 210.

Well firstly, thank you for trying out my map! :D I am hoping you enjoyed it.

I assume you tries the scenario? That is odd, it crashes every time for me. hmmm... I have been very busy lately, so I have not been able to play. I have only tried playing as the Dutch, and it crashes on the loading screen. Do you think you can try the Dutch? If it does not crash on your side, then it is likely a problem on my end.

By the way, which city states are just wandering around? I am guessing they probably do not have the room to settle??

Thank you so much Timtofly!

Is your scenario uploaded somewhere? It may be that giving you the crashes and not the map itself? Did you purposely place most of the CS in Europe? When I chose the map, it automatically loaded certain settings, but I do not know much about scenarios. You might try asking in the mod forums in the scenario section to see if any one there has any ideas.

Upon loading the map it kept my current ensemble of me (which I changed to India) against Spain which built their first city in "Central America" with Milan in the middle "USA" and Jakarta in eastern "Canada". China started in "France" where I found the three city states just wandering around. I started in "Northern Russia" with LaVenta, Capetown, Florence, and Lhasa crammed into "Europe" between China and India (me). Veletta, the only militaristic (so far) CS was just east of me. Kathmandu started in "Kenya", Singapore in "Venezuela", and Colombo just on the south side of the Amazon on the Atlantic coast. Byzantine is along the river that splits central and western "Africa". They only settled two cities along that river, and no coastal towns. Carthage started in "Maynmar" and is puppeting Tyre in "India". There may be another CS in "South America", since that is the only place still "undiscovered". It also may have been captured or destroyed.

It defaulted to Warlord and for a standard map was enjoyable. I thought that I would not be able to sail around the world, but it is doable. Spain decided to not allow any passage through Central America, which I may resolve before the game is over. :D

I actually don't know where to get the scenario, I thought it came with the map. Are you going to Mods -> SIngle player -> pick the map and press play scenario? If it is not there, that would be weird if it wasn't. Do you know where to find it if it is not there?

I actually tried to put all of the important European civs in, whereas I tried to put more city states outside of Europe, to get the Europeans to compete. I also put all the natural wonders and such where they are supposed to be. I am trying to make it more realistic.

I cant wait for Brave New World, it will make this map so much better :P.

So try out the scenario thing on mods *if it is there*, If it is not, let me know and I will try to find it. If you have the scenario, and it crashes let me know, I am so confused at why it is.

All I did was save your map into the maps folder. I then chose it under game setup. If I choose mods it takes me to the online database, and there is no single player option there. I can go to single player and then scenerios, but there is no scenario there with the name of your map.

I am not very litterate when it comes to mods and scenarios. I downloaded one once to get the acheivement, but other than that, I don't use any nor have I downloaded anything from the online mod forum.

There are 130 scenarios to choose from online, which one is yours?

Hmmm, no I mean go to mods, press load mods, press single player, then click on the map "my earth" I think it was, and click load scenario right below the map after selecting it. DOes that make sense? I am not on my computer that has Civ 5, so I havent checked to see if those directions are accurate :( Sorry. Let me know if you find it. If not, I will try to find a way to get my scenario to you.

Thank you for your help :).

When I go to mods, get mods, I end up in the online database. I have to figure out how to download the mod or scenario.

Alright, I do not know the problem with the scenario, but I have discovered if I rescale the map, or change it in some way it fixes the problem. Unfortunately I do not know the bug so I could not report it to firaxis.

Thank you for your help Timtofly, I decided to use Rhyes earth map and added stuff I wanted. If you want the map that I made, just let me know :).
