Hello everyone it's been awhile since Ive been here last (lot of catching up to do). I have recently started a game to win by Diplo (I didnt plan it but it looks the best for me). Now am I correct in assuming that building the UN myself has advantages when it comes time to vote? Assuming I do not get it do I still have a chance of winning? I havn't gone to war with anyone, nor broken deals. I periodically give the AI loans of gold (I have tons).

My millitary consists of about 20 or so Ancient Calvary (Im in the late Industrial)(not counting all my artillery and infantry) because I am on a continent by myself and wanted to keep a millitary so I didnt get pushed around (no matter how outdated). Recently I started a construction program of Carriers (I name mine Enterprise, Nimtz) with those two currently sitting off of the greek coast in International waters. The reason behind this is Greece is my runner up and I have caught them stealing technology from me. If I figure out the city they are building the UN I will burn it to the ground.

I'm not sure what all depends in UN votes but some thing i heard here on forums definitely do:

* land size
* population
* human relationships with AI
* AI relationships with AI (if they like each other or not)

this is how much i know. Never did it before. Oh yeah, many still living AIs help also :) You cant get a majority vote with 1 civ left :banana: hahaha

EDIT: Since population does matter, try pumping up those cities to size 30+, i think it might help... Also, i dont know if not trading tech (and being forward in tech) counts as good or bad....

Building the UN is important in any game, but it becomes nearly essential if you are going for a diplo win. However, the UN does NOT help you win the vote. It gets you on the ballot and gives you the option of preventing the vote if you desire. If you do not build it you most likely will not get a diplo win. If the AI suspects that it will lose the vote it will prevent it indefinately.

The UN ballot consists of 2 or 3 civs. To be eligible a civ must:

1. Build the UN
2. Control 25% of the world's population
3. Control 25% of the world's territory

If only one civ is eligible the second candidate is the civ with the largest population.

The outcome of the vote itself is quite simple. Every leader on the ballot votes for themself and every leader not on the ballot either votes for the candidate they like most, or abstains if each is in equal standing. A tie vote is inconclusive and causes the game to continue for 10 (I think) turns before another vote can be held.

Diplo victory is a great way to quickly end a game that is dragging toward the later stages or come from behind when you are weaker than your opponents. Due to its game ending nature the UN can be the most important wonder you ever build either to get on the ballot, to guarantee a vote, or to prevent a vote from ever being held. It must be used very carefully, there are few things more frustrating than losing a game by one or two votes.

Figuring out what city any wonder is in or is being built in is a simple matter of pressing the F7 key. Once you press it, you will find out what I mean. Once you learn this, life becomes a whole lot easier...

I am aware of F7 :). I own my whole continent while the other 3 AI are smushed on 1. I also own a small Island. I have the population covered and I am building hospitals now.

Now If I understand correctly 2 Civs are put on the ballot but how does it decide the other civ (rank in power?).

As far as I know there havn't been any wars the entire game It's been pretty peacefull (as always my Navy is standing by).
