Hey,

The biggest problem I've found with civ-4 is how slow it runs.
I've got it running on an AMD-64 3500 @ 2.2Ghz with 1Gb Ram with an Ge-Force 6800-GT and it Runs so slow once I've made contact with six or so other civ's

I've turned off the characters and that helps for a while and then it bogs down. I've noticed that my CPU is running at 100% when this happens!!

My Other problem is a Graphic corruption but only when I Zoom way out. I can see what might be clouds but the earth below is all smeared and streaky, so are the cities names - basically everything goes.

Not sure if anyone else has these problems, but hopefully someone from firaxis reads this and adds it to the Very long list of problems that are already out there...

Cheers

R

Try new drivers. My 6800gt started working with forceware 76.44

Ramirez: You have two options to fix the graphical corruptions.

1. Upgrade to the new leaked 81.89 Beta drivers (see this thread).
2. Downgrade to any 70 series drivers such as the 78.05s, located here.

(As for performance, I apologise, but I don't think I can help! Sorry.)

Hello I have exactly the same specs as yourself and the same slow downs I updated my driver to 8.8.8.5, but playing the medieval scenario on low settings after about 5-10 moves the slowdown would once again occur. This time I opened my task manager and set the Civ priority to above normal (usually Civ seems to ignore this once you start the game again) bizarrely last night I left the task manager open and brought up Civ the slowdown had gone I have no rational explanation for this but it worked perhaps my new driver was having a coffee before it got to work. At least now I can play the game (tempting faith) still dislike the graphics though.

I am amazed that people like the OP are having slow down issues with the spec of the hardware that is posted.

I was running it on a AMD XP 2600, 1GB of RAM with an ATI9800pro card and, when in the late age, I would get very little slow down whilst waiting for the AI.

Now that I am running it on an AMD64 Opteron runnning at 10x280, 1GB of Ram, ATI GTO2 (flashed to a ATI850XTPE) I again get very little slow down.

The point I'm making is that I am reading posts where the relationship of the games performance doesn't always equate to that of the machine spec as some people are running it on a 'mediocre' spec machine and it seems to be fine.

BTW - I do experience an odd CTD

Could be the fact some of us got screwed up CD's I know the ones I got were labled wrong. Disc 1 was the install disc and Disc 2 was the play disc. Anyone else have those mislabled discs and are having problems?

Mislabelling the discs is more of an inconvenience, provided you have one of each, rather than the cause of the issues that people are experiencing.
Hopefully it will not be too longe before a patch is released, although I would think that not all the issues that people are having are going to be resolved with just a patch.

I'm having the same problem... game is slow as hell. I tried a lot of drivers for my ati radeon mobilty x300 but nothing does the trick. Here are my specs

Pentium M 1.7 ghz ( = p4 3ghz )
1024 ram of DDR2
ati radeon mobility x300
I dunno what the sound card is, but I doubt it causes the slowdowns.

My specs can't be the problem.. my laptop is brand new.
