Going to Monarchy

Good tip Jack. I would add though you have to be mindful of those cites with the gov, they tend to starve them out or build silly things if you monitor them.

Plus it's good to look the tiles within your city to better access who and what to make entertainers.

I like that tip Jack, but sometimes humans can do a better job! Maybe for lower levels though. It also depends on when you fire them. Fire them soon enough not to let them do any 'damage'.

I only like using goveners to decide all the city production. I don't normally, but if I have way to many cities to go through, then it helps alot. I don't let them manage my city tiles though. I always manage this myself, changing it for different situations.

Actually, my standard mode of operations is to starve out the citizens of the opposing civ when capturing the cities - I wish there was a way to tell the governor to turn them all into tax collectors, and let them eat cake !

(I usually play emperor/deity though - on lower levels this is not as necessary).

What I do at Anarchy is swiching disorderd City to "order" and next turn back to disorder (max food), in order to let City grow a bit; but last turn must be "order" in order to start production straight away at new goverment. Also it may be a good idea to keep research going "at minimun rate" using one of the tile (in one City only) for Scientist.

Are you sure, FB? I think I remember an early game, before I learned to "settle, settle, settle", where I had a tiny civ (3-5 cities) when I transitioned to Republic from Despotism, and the anarchy lasted only 1 turn (and no, I wasn't Religious).

I had 1 turn anarchy repeatedly in OCC games, non-religious.
