Gold and trade routes.. inconsistent

Wow, so much less gold! I knew the removing of gold from the rivers and the sea tiles was going to hurt, I just didn't realize how badly it was going to hurt. I've actually gotten close to bankrupt on a few occasions but manage to squeeze by.

The thing I don't like about the gold coming in from trade routes is that it shows weird on the tooltop. One turn I'll have +20 gold, the next it'll be +0, then the next it'll be -X, then back up to a plus. It's so inconsistent and hard to know what you're actually bringing in.

Just in real life I can imagine, who can plan when a trader will get robbed.

This might be because the gold/turn drops when the trade routes expire. It goes back up again when you reassign them. Otherwise it shouldn't fluctuate due to international trade.
 
Fluctuation: only 2 possible causes:

1. Plundering --> protect your TR, or set them into zones you can/don't need to protect.

2. Expiration --> set a new TR.
 
You also get some routes from the AI which have a yield for you. This is all listed in the gold summary as trade with other civilisations. If these are changing then that might alter the values also.
