Confused about this.

I generally play on Online speed but decided to try Standard. I typically buy a Granary and Monument in newly founded cities and usually see a cost of in the neighborhood of 120 for each of these items. I was kind of surprised in this game to see the costs at a quite reduced ~50. Aha, I think, I am going to save some gold here. But I bought the Monument and the cost of the Granary jumped up immediately to (I forget what, exactly but like 300+ or some **** like that.

Is this normal and what's the math behind it? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, buying one thing shouldn't affect the price of a different thing. The price of workers and settlers increases for every one you buy/build, and district costs go up as you move through the tech and civic trees, but I don't know what would lead to the situation you describe.

On standard speed, IIRC, granaries cost 260 and monuments 240, absent modifiers (like the discount with merchant republic).

Was that the FAITH price or the GOLD price?
Neither one is supposed to change. Building prices don't change no matter how many you buy.
I've never seen them change anyway.

Gold. Well, it didn't happen at my third city. I saw the 260/240 prices immediately. I'll return here with any more details if I ever see it again...
