Gold from fake trade exploit.

I wonder if they'll bother patching it. I suspect they'll have to though or no resource:gold deals will ever be viable, unless they once again lock things into a /turn for /turn trade only.

I sure hope so. I don't even want to think about how easy it is to milk the AI with this on Deity. Repairing takes 3 turns iirc so you can make 100 gpt with this. Talk about broken. Admittedly, it's not worse than selling cities to the AI and immediately recapturing them, which also annoys me no end and is totally unfun.

didnt think about using this on deity but why not? sounds fun.

Anyway I hope that they fix this too, because I dont want to see Deity beaten using pure exploits.

I rarely play single player because of this. It's easy to make corrections of these exploits but they are too slow. Humans are more fun to play. I'm not playing single player until they fixed everything.

I am the kind of guy who can easily exploit these tricks!

MP has its issues too. The big ones are the following:

1. If you end turn, you can't give commands. This means that anybody at war is well-served bleeding out the timer (very tedious games) and then trying to execute all orders at the last possible moment, leading to
2. Simultaneous actions in hexes, with connection being a large deciding factor ON TOP of usually irrelevant in TBS fast-twitch RTS micro.

These 2 things alone make MP pretty dicey.

You mean you are the kind of guy that has difficulties not exploiting bugs? Well...we all have our flaws. You better stick with MP yeh

pillaging your own improvements is very useful in some cases, for example I use it to get rid of extra roads to reduce maintenance, optimizing your roads in the end game makes huge difference in gold output.
I remember trying this but iirc you still pay for pillaged roads. Have to use workers.

Nothing is perfect, but they can also correct the #1 point. MP is still more fun for me. I have to agree this can be very frustrating sometimes. You can even lose population if you don't watch barbs correctly in low food cities.

@Clarence Seedorf : Since i try to be the most optimal with the tools i have, yes.

Humans are certainly more engaging than the AI, and they don't have those ludicrous bonuses XD.

I just tried this exploit out and it doesn't work...

I had only one source of silk. I traded it away to another civ for a lump payment of money. Then I pillaged my only source of silk. The game did not make the deal end; it's still in effect, despite me not actually having any silk. If I later repair the improvement, then the game takes that one silk to continue fulfilling the deal that was never canceled, and won't let me trade that silk away to anyone else.

Later in the game, I obtained my first and only source of silver. I tried again, trading it away to another civ for money and then pillaging the silver mine. Again, the game did not make the deal end; the deal stays in effect, despite my mine being pillaged.

Strange it worked for me

Edit: I tired it again and it worked. I am playing the latest game patch 1.0.1.141 do yo have the same game version as mine?

The fact is that it's too hard to win on Deity Level if you are not using some kind of exploit. Selling and recapturing a city will request you to declare war on them. Pellaging does not.

I'm not using this, simply because I believe it will be patched and it's too exploitative.

But if a barbarian wants to pillage a trade resource/luxury, I'm not going to stop him lol.

Yes but selling a city for 1000 gold early game is well worth a little war. If you buy units for the money, you'll easily take the city back and the AI will often even sue for peace after a while.

Any time a player defaults on a deal for any reason (resource/gold income too low, player declares war cancelling their deals) they should get a diplo hit.

Simple as that...
If I am acting like Monty and DOW someone I just signed an RA with...I should get a diplo hit.

If I "take a loan" gold for gpt, and my gpt falls too low... I should get a diplo hit.

If I give up a resource for X turns and the resource is lost before the turns are up, I should get a diplo hit.

And the computer should have the same v. other computers. (so if Napoleon is selling his only gems to Caesar, and I take his gem city... Computers civs will be less likely to trust Napoleon in the future with "per turn" deals... and the Human player will be notified how often other civs have broken off their 'per turn' deals)

Okay, the version is what the problem was. I did some more testing with different versions. The exploit doesn't work on 1.0.0.20, but it does work on 1.0.1.135+.
