Gold per Turn agreement problem

I don't know why, but if I offer some gold per turn to another civ, it just makes the deal less attractive for the AI. For example, if I offer tech A for tech B, and the deal is "close", and I then offer something like 2 gold per turn, it ecomes "They would never accept such a deal." Help, anyone?

You trashed your reputation by previously breaking a deal. Thus the AIs will never again accept turn-based values (resources, luxuries, gpt) from you for one-time values (wm, tm, techs, gold).

Except as part of a peace deal or peace re-negotiation.

Also, even with a few thousand gold in your coffers, the AI would not accept 2gpt if you're running a deficit. (in this case, increase tax or hire taxmen, make deal, then cut tax again)

Not necessarily a Rep issue - if the AI can't afford it this is the reply you will get. (Easy way to check is to go into the trade scren, click on the AI's gold per turn and type in 9999 <enter>... it will tell you how much GROSS gpt the AI is making - you can usually tell if they are broke or not by seeing this number.) Try decreasing the demand...if they can afford and your rep is good you will eventually find their spending limit. Early in the game most AI will not be able to afford GPT, so you will get this message a lot.

That's of course a neat way to determine AI's income, but I understand that Azash offered gpt.
Apart from that, a trashed rep would not affect the AI's willingless to give gpt to you; they wouldn't suffer from yet another (possible) future deal-breaking anyways.

In my experience they don't accept GPT in Despotism either. At least in vanilla civ.

They just don't accept it if you do not have the money or have a bad rep or the price is not right.

Hmm, interesting. The AI NEVER wants a GPT deal under dedspotism when I play, even if I'm making 500 gold per turn (yes, I 've had that situation before).

...And, no my rep wasn't ruined.

Opps my bad - maybe I should put on my glasses...
