Basicly;what generates the amount of gold a city produces and does the era have any thing to do with it!
I have built a few citys lately around 1700/1800 and a few turns later there seems to be gold every where and the city is screaming for a Market Place.
I wonder why this is so.?

Maybe you're using democracy? 1 more trade on each square allready producing trade and no corruption gives you a lot more than other govs:)

The concept is that each square that is exploited by your people produces trade (double arrows you can see in the city box). The more trade, the more income for you. There are also external income such as caravans... But back to our problem: the trade is converted into gold/luxuries/research, according to the ratio you set for tax/lux/science. I hope I answered your question. Although it's quite brief.

A last thing if you're not in democracy, there are some trade lost due to corruption, of course this lost will not be converted into gold/lux/light bulb...

Do you play fundy?

If so, happiness wonders and temples etc give you extra gold. Mike's gives you 3-4 gold in every city and Bach gives you 2g in every city.

Did I get it right? The double trade arrows convert into gold;but proporinatley with regard to the tax rate.

[yes, fundy does give extra gold.I use it often]

Lets use a very basic example

10 trade arrows(double arrows) produced

Tax rate set to 50 tax,50 science,no luxury

5 gold pieces and 5 science beakers produced.

Tax 70/30=7 gold and 3 science beakers

ETC.

Some city improvements will increase the amount of gold, such as Marketplace, Bank, and StockExchange, and SuperHighways will increase the amount of TradeArrows for each tile that has at least one trade, so that will increase your gold too.

Those first three improvements also increase Luxuries, which is important for keeping people content in Republic or Democracy.

And under Fundy, any happiness improvements produce gold instead.
