I find that I like to delay my first Golden Age as long as possible, so that I get the most production/gold benefit. Am I alone in this practice?

Also, if I am playing Persia, timing of the Golden Age for my first War is devastating for my enemy. So, cool.

But, then I have to wait forever for my next Golden Age. I don't know how people can chain them. Advice?

(p.s. I'm new to the Civ game, Civ 5 is my first, so no complaints from me, I don't know any better, after 70 hours of playing, I'm loving it.)

If you wanted to time your first golden age, I would probably do it like this:

Let it build up to almost full. Then sell your luxuries to make your happiness very low (but try to avoid negatives!). Try to sell your luxuries to civs that like you, so you get decent money for them.

When you are coming close to wanting the golden age, use the money you got from selling the luxuries earlier to buy luxuries back, or to build lots of colosseums.

I try and halt my first golden age to coincide when I build Chichen Itza, and halt my second golden age to occur right before I build the Taj Mahal.

Timing GAs with Persia and Chichen Itza is brutal, especially with Taj Mahal. I wasn't really trying, but I had a GA pop with Persia while I was building the TM. Then it popped, adding it's 49-turn GA (Persia bug) to the 22 turn GA I was already going through. Just to make it sickening, I used an extra Great Artist I had lying around to add to the GA. I had a Golden Age from the middle of the Medieval Period well into the Industrial Age.

I do this with any civ I play, and with any victory condition. The AI never rushes to build these wonders, so I know I can always build them even if I don't have marble/tradition tree.
