When does every one have thier golden ages. Do you plan them or just let them come. I personally try have mine the minute I have successfully switched to a republic.

Industrial ages. I get the benefits of factories without the excess pollution. By the time the age is over, I've already built the Hoover Dam and have researched Recycling.

Unfortunately, many civs have ancient special units. The benefit of a later golden age does not outway getting slaughtered because you don't use your special unit. I try to hold off until at least my wonder producing city is reasonably well developed, but even that is difficult, especially with a civ like the babylonians.

Is it really that bad to have them early. As long as you can use it to grab expensive techs in the ancient age, and get a new government.

Dispelling the Myth of 1 Golden Age

You don't have to be limited to ONE GA...you can have multiple. Many person on this forum, including me, have had 2 GA's. I don't know of anyone having THREE, but I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility. Ive never heard from FIRAXIS about this issue, what the exact criteria for a GA are. Here's what I know:

the easiest way to get a double GA is this:

1) build a wonder which will trigger a GA

and then, after a "sufficiently long period of time", most likely after making at least 1 Era transition (maybe 2? limiting to only 2 GAs max, but thats another thread...)

2) win a battle with UU

1 and 2 can, of course, be reversed.

I like the Mounted Warrior rush in the last couple games I've played so I usually get an early golden age, once I have about 6-8 cities, I will hoard them up and rid my continent of 1-2 neighbors in the golden age.

I have played 40+ games and I have never gotten two golden ages. At any rate, building a wonder MAY trigger a golden age, and this seems to happen only about half the time. I wonder if you can get multiple golden ages only on lower levels?

No offense to anyone whos posted here, but I'm trying to figure out when every one gets a golden age. Not when you think you're doing best, what wonders you build, or whether you get two GA's. Just when you try to have them

I would prefer to get mine in the middle ages. At this point in the game, I am usually at war, and the large number of extra shields really helps in pumping out units. Also, there are a number of wonders at this stage that I really like to have. Of course, this is hard to accomplish, since most of my favorite civs have ancient unique units.
