GOMAW 28 AWM wheel

Anyway here I go.

Stuff looks good.

start to road towards Iron. Will Whip forge to help cause rice is way nice to us.

Lost an axe at Pisae to good odds. Pisae is hopping with Catherine and Julius coming that way.

Kill a warrior. Kill a spear on Defense. Too many units at Pisae, retreat everything into city, and hope to hold.

Kill 4 on Defense at Pisae losing none. Why the Sam Hill do our archers have combat 1 promotion? I mean Seriously here.

Kill 3 units at Pisae. I give our spear the Mounted Promotion, just to really be annoying to chariots.

Kill 2 more units at Pisae. Our economy is in trouble, but we are working on that now.

Not too much is happening now.

I built a library in Beijeing and started one in Shanghai. In the lull here we really need to get some basic infra up.

We need to settle the gold town ASAP, and I am working towards it now. A settler is on the way, and the road network is headed there.

Pisae is solid and holding now. We really need to leverage our financial trait to a tech lead soon. The AI is content to throw away units at Pisae, which helps us a ton.

I don't think I will be accused of Crack here, as I oriented worker tasks to food first, mobility second, money third.

300 AD (0)
Whip the Library in Shanghai since the city has already grown into unhappiness. Might just build the Colossus here next, depends on what we can do in Beijing.

330 AD (3)
Win a couple at Pisae. We are really empty in the [edit]West[/edit], this is cutting it real close.

340 AD (4)
Caesar loses three units at Pisae, that front is rather solid.

Whip Forge at Nanjing. Next up is a Library.

360 AD (6)
Saladin appears with an Archer near Xian. No threat.

370 AD (7)
Lose an Archer in killing three Roman units. May need to build a unit sometime during this round.

380 AD (8)
Settler finally built and sent to the Red dot.

Could be an interesting IT at Pisae as there are 7 enemy units over there.

390 AD (9)
Kill 4 Axes on the IT and the rest run like scalded dogs. Then whack the Arabian Archer that wandered next to Xian.

400 AD (10)
Chengdu founded, set to Obelisk that should be chopped. Then a Workboat and a whipped Forge and we can start to build troops there (and mine the gold), since the Colossus is being built in Shanghai (only 3 turns remaining) :) . Of course, this may turn out to be the Great Library city if/when we settle the Marble.

There is a forest chop in progress towards the Library in Nanjing. After that is built/whipped, let the city grow to it's happiness limit and pull a couple of scientists. It can probably share the Sheep with Chengdu until we start to run specialists, particularly after we net the Clams in Chengdu. But, the Sheep should be primarily for Chengdu so we can work more Hills.

The Ivory at Xian may be better served as Cottaged rather than Camped. We can afford to trade 1 Hammer for (eventually) 5-6 trade there.

We're 2nd in GNP and last in just about everything else.

Sounds good. Do we have the gold hooked yet? That's good for two happies in every city with a forge, which can really help take the sting off of some of that whipping unhappiness. Let's also make sure to configure cities for max growth to get those new citizens working those 4 commerce coastal tiles. One good thing is we have access to all three granary resources, so those can be built around units in cities wit forges and decent hammers.

As for the archers I sent toward Pisae, I left them unpromoted, but would have thought that city defense would be best. Might be able to make one a back-up medic.

[EDIT] Sigh, looked at the pic and it will be a while for the gold, as it needs a border pop. I think it may have been better to just settle that city to the west of the gold so it could get it hooked immediately, but too late now. As for Shanghai growing into unhappiness, I built the plains cottage so it could work even food and prevent that from happening, now it has to spend 15 turns down a citizen. Great. We managed less than one tech in the last two sets, BTW. Continue on to lit I guess for Heroic Epic and GL. Marble/rice city next.

ok, Greebley, will swap with you...anyway things looking good so far.

As long term goal we need to get to machinery for our UU.

save

Pre-Turn
we still look thin on units, but what to do, important is to get the gold hooked up as soon as possible

1. 410AD
alphabet is in, since we wanted literature, go for polytheism in 4

2. 420AD
forest chop at Chengdu finishes the obelisk

3. 430AD
we get the Colossus :)
another Roman stack is approaching Pisae

4. 440AD
Guangzhou gets a lighthouse and starts an archer
tricky situation at Pisae since ther is a chariot threatening the back, need to cover the worker with archer
leaving only 4 units in town against 6

IT we defeat 4 units without losses, the chariot avoids us
a Incan galley is turning up in the north
we get polytheism, literature next in 8

5. 450AD
the galley is empty but no doubt will block our resource
defeat the chariot
set Shanghai back to growth since the unhappiness is gone

6. 460AD
Cathy shows up with 3 swords and a chariot, Rome is also back with more units

7. 470AD
and the game shuts my computer down, too hot...ridiculous
reload autosave

IT Rome loses another axe, but chariot bypasses city as usual, we need more spears here

8. 480AD
due to the crash I missed Bejing growing to unhapiness, but we can leave that once gold is hooked we will need the bigger size
since the spear is still wounded, need to take out chariot with axe, not good
another spear produced in Bejing is on it's way

9. 490AD/B]
Cathy loses 2 swords at Pisea, but there are 4 units tyring to bypass
the odds are too bad against 3 chariots and 1 sword, I have no choice, they will pillage us
decide to cover 2 tiles with axes leaving 1 spear, a wounded axe and 2 archer in Pisea

IT it works, no attacks but they simply march on and the next bunxh is coming already

10. 500AD
Shanghai gets a lighthouse, start axe there
Xian lighthouse -> galley
Guangzhou archer -> spear

take out all 4 units without losses, the danger is over for now, but more units coming

literature is due in 5, we need machinery then though this will take ages
Chengdu gets a border expansion in 8, connect gold then immediately

scattered units after the walk on thin thin ice

final tally 13:0, if we ever get lousy RnG, we are finished

we need to somehow block that choke at Pisae, unit bypassing is not what we want long term.

I suggest to build Great Library in Shanghai once we have the tech.

Some thoughts.

I concur on the Great Library.
Shouldn't we be getting a prophet really soon?

The 2nd in GNP is useful, we need to in the next 30 turns get that to 1st though.

We can use 2-3 units and block the choke at Pisae and the AI will then like to attack Pisae. The other thing is, we will need courts in a big way and a big hurry soon.

We should consider exploring and dotmapping to our other choke. That could be really useful.

Having Gangzhou pick up the great lighthouse might not be a bad idea.

Math for Forts -> Construction for Cats and Phants?
Drama for slider (free happy from dyes with theaters)?
Machinery for UU?
Monarchy for happies->Feud for longbows, vassalage?
Math for Forts->Currency for dough/happies->CoL for cost containment

Lot's of choices. Since we're financial and still a little short on hammers (making a higher cost structure more affordable and the building of disposable cats less alluring), I'd like to get drama first so we can raise the happy limit via culture slider to up our citizen count and bring a few more tiles into play. This will give us more hammers to shore up our defenses and finish up infra while getting more cottages worked to develop our long-term econ.

From the pic of Pisae, pls whip a granary there to make full use of the pigs. It should be whipped every fifteen turns.

Actually Bez, you are up.

So you can whip it. (Insert Devo Song somewhere around here)

One other thing to bear in mind as we pick tech: We have three Calendar lux. Between those and Theaters, we can get all of our cities up to ~size 13 without Hereditary Rule. So if we survive long enough we'll have plenty of tiles worked, even if we don't build too many more cities.

Yep, yep, sounds like a plan. And all that calendar goodness makes the math path look even better, with tasty phants on offer too. Too bad the UU is the other way. Decisions, decisions.

There's good land for at least three more cities, and we don't even know what else lies to the west, but we can afford to take our time getting them settled if we make sure to continue growing and developing the ones we have.

Early - worked on solidifying my border with Rome and Russia. By Mid-turn things were starting to turn around.

Mid: We built a work boat (N-most town) but there are Galleys all over the place. Started one of our own. Perhaps we can rush it. There was a landing up there that pillaged a bit before I could control it.

Late: Major attack from our west. I really needed to scramble and rush more units than I would like. We got pillaged some more including one of our villages near the capitol. It is mostly under control though we do have 6 more incoming units. The problem is that we have no forward town so they can attack along a long front.

I actually tried to fix the long front by building a settler for the west. The attacks occurred before I was able to settle. We still have a settler in the nearby town.

On the last turn we lost our very experienced Axe with terrible RNG. It had 5 promotions. It had a 90% chance of winning attacking out. Add in fortified and the city bonus - yet it still lost. A bad blow for us.

For tech I went for Mathematics as seemed to be the consensus.

Nanjing is set for growth. it will go unhappy, but its defender is just outside the city. I figure we can rush the Granary.

Gold is almost connected which will make our Capitol happy again.

GOMAW28_AD600.jpg

wow, this sounds even rougher than my turns. At least I knew where the enemy was coming from. I hope we can stabilize the west, I think 3 fronts might just prove far too much for this type of game. I hope I am wrong though.
