OOC - Yes, but the Russians did not care about that. All they wanted it to do was infect and disable large numbers of American troops, which it did. They didn't really care about it spreading. Trust me, the Americans quickly quarantined the areas, and their troops, until they were "liberated", that is. This way, the virus never really spread.

OOC: In addition it is important to note that it is not in any country's power, or even all nuclear countries combined power, to melt the ice caps. It would take thousands or even tens of thousands of simultaneously detonated nuclear weapons to destroy the ice caps. If all the ice on earth was melted, ocean levels would rise about 230 feet. This isn't possible, because a nuclear strike wouldn't melt all the water, it would vaporize a lot of it, allowing much to refreeze, especially with less heat due to the obscuring of the atmosphere. And when the sea level rises and covers some of the land, there will be a natural cooling effect, because water will absorb heat more evenly and reflect more heat than land, instead of trapping it near the surface and heating up the air around it. This is especially true at the poles, where the angle of light is more oblique. Thus some or much of the ice would reform.

So,
1. With current (in game) nuclear stockpiles, only a tiny fraction of this could come about in the first place.
2. It would definitely be bad, even in its limited form, but by no means the end of civilization, much less the human race, and a climate equilibrium would eventually again be reached. Really, the threat of VX poisoning is of far more concern to those of us unfortunate enough to now be classified as "Communist Countries"

You have two choices here, and these will be not favorable choices to you, but, it will save the World from complete anhillation. I'm quite happy to blow the world to hell to keep the world from falling under the Corrupt Communist forces. Here are your choices:

A) You withdraw from the USA, giving me a Mouse Pox cure and 20-30 econ. reperations to pay for the damages and loss of life inflicted upon this invasion.

B) A couple ICBMs will be launched into the Polar Ice Caps with 50 MT Hydrogen Bombs. The Caps will melt and there will be a world-wide flood. I will also at this time Fire as many ICBMs as I can loaded with the VX chemical into all Fresh Water Sorces in Communist Counties.

Those are your options, so I would suggest you chose very wisely. Death of the entire world, or an uneasy peace?

Back in the Vietnam war the US said something about it being more important to save the world then to eradicate communism (which was never my goal anyway, it was to defend South Vietnam and potentially get rid of an agressor).
Apparently, the US is more important then the whole world put together, while the CU can sympathize with such a view having been threatened by attack herself she has chosen not to go the way of nuclear weapons. Perhaps the US could achieve it's vengeance without making the rest of the non-communist world collatoral damage?

Here's to hoping for a peaceful resolution anyway. Russia, please choose option A?

PS. Goobsy, I just noticed - I don't think you've updated the global warming after the significant cooling so by my memory it's still -4 degrees Celsius and that's a lot. In fact there should be a LOT of beachfront property not seen in the IRL world of today. His Megaton bombs if effective probably wouldn't result in world death.
Hey, I mean this world is a rough one, it survived the last nuclear exchange, why not this one which by the looks of it will involve far less warheads? Might even bring things back to 'normal'...
And large hurricanes and storms have a very high output of destruction as well, A-bombs are exagerrated in enviromental destruction in a relativistic view. H-bombs are terrible, but I don't think a few would destroy the world.
