good luck with RNG

Since many people here have been talking about the fairness of the RNG, has anyone had good luck with it. eg your spearman killing a tank.

All the time! But people don't remember that. They remember their Modern Armor Army losing to a spearman with 1 HP in the open plains. it's just the way the human mind works.

RNG giveth and RNG taketh away. From extreme luck to absurd misfortune. The keyword is random ;)

I doubt I've ever had spearmen at the same time the AI had tanks. I don't remember anything that extreme. But I often notice that I have what seems to be a "magical" unit that lives through an entire game, several upgrades, winning battle after battle against all odds, and hardly ever loses a hit point.

Of course I've won plenty of battles where I was the weaker side.

Actually I rename my particularly lucky units, and in an entire game (on huge map), there are quite a dozen of these.
They tend to be defensive units mainly, since I usually won't attack if I don't have an outrageous chance to win.

I do remember lucky cases :) Once I got only 3 elites left in my forces and I had three targets to attack. I got MGL with every unit:) Never had such anymore

In my last game (of Rise and Rule), I got a few elite jaguar warriors by fighting barbarians. When I declared war on another civ, the very first elite victory produced an MGL.

I've got another one: on a deity game of regular C3C, I was an expansionist civ and popped a hut on turn two of the game. I got a settler, so I had two cities on turn three.

If you live by the RNG you die by the RNG, on my last SID game the AI was well into the modern age with MA and MI and Jets and nukes while I was still stuck with Tanks, infantry, and fighter planes. I seriously needed a GA to get caught up and to finally take on my nemises on my big Island the Vikings. I had plenty of Arty and I knew I could red-line a few but I could'nt figure out how many Javilin Throwers at 2-2-1 it was going to take to kill a red-lined 12-18-2 MI, so I built about 7 or 8 of them hoping that would be enough, but guess what? The first one that attacked killed him and then automatically there was a golden age.. yippee, by the end of my Golden age the vikings were history and I was in a good position to push everyone else around :)

What made this strategy even sweeter was right after I invaded the vikings they nuked me with there measley 4 nukes they had, and then the whole world declared war on them, I quickly made peace with the vikings and built back up my 4 cities and my military and just let everyone Nuke and fight the vikings, by the time I was ready about 5 turns later I basically was able just to walk into Viking country and take it.

I have killed a Modern Armor with a Hoplite (albeit in a mountain fortress), but it didn't matter.

Most of the time i seem to gain my first MGL several attacks before the sixteenth attack. I even once got one on the first elite attack in the game. even after i build the heroic epic i seem to generate more MGL's than one for every 12 attacks.

In COTM4, I think I got about a dozen MGLs over the course of the game. And all of my armies were more successful than they deserved to be -- even my knight armies were taking out riflemen with no problem.

Yeah, in my last huge map, I had about 14 armies at the end, all from MGLs. My first one was from a random phony war against the Spanish, half the world away. The one unit that gets to my territory, and ta-da, I now have an army. My various keshik (Mongols) and cavalry armies rampaged around the world, never dying (tho getting close).

3 cities, 3 Modern Armour, 3 MGL

I once had a lone musketeer defeat an AA SOD single handedly. Not remarkable on a case by case basis but pulling off ~20 consecutive wins was pretty sweet, even got a leader out of it. :)

In SGOTM 3 we (Team Mauer) managed 4 great leaders in the period 440 AD to 610 AD, including the use of 3 leaders to rush 2 wonders and build an army in the period 500 to 520.

In my recent game I had something similar: 3 elite Cavalry wins and 3 MGL's - one to create an army and two another to rush Factories. Two turns later I had an army of 4 Elite* Cavalry :)

Best regards,

Slawomir Stachniewicz.

I started a thread about freakily good luck (2 MGLs in a row without Heroic Epic, 255-1 odds) here.

I agree with thetrooper's comment that "RNG giveth and RNG taketh away. From extreme luck to absurd misfortune. The key word is random."
