A good strategy with Civ3 is to get the defense up in cities closest to where you will have a war, then load up some transports with about 60% of the troops you plan to be using, then load the other 40% up near the countries' dividing line. Attack with the 40% army so that your transport can sneak through the back. Most of their attacking army will be fighting at the border, so you have 2 or 3 turns to capture a few towns. If you can build an airport, do so, even if it means hurrying. Then you can build your army at home and send them over quickly. so mainly it sets up a diversion, opens up a back door, and *poof!* you got yourself a Trojan horse! :nuke: :egypt:

I find that once the enemy has railroads, conquering is nearly impossible. Once you engage him, say, take a city, on his next turn you face every single unit in his empire. Eventually, you are going to lose. Now, admittedly, I have only dealt with this while fighting an opponent on another continent: it is hard to boat over enough units to compete with his entire army. But still, marines are great for taking seaside cities... but if you are doomed to be forever spanked because of instanteous transportation, what is the point?

You have to do what they did in the civil war. Cut the Supply Lines. Pillage the railroads, and try to cut off rubber, oil, aluminum etc. This won't last as they will rebuild but it will slow them down and give you "a little" time to play defense. Also sometimes you have to ask for peace and submit to their demands.

Actually, you can take over a country with a rail-net.

I have already killed England. India / China are < 1/2 what the started with.

When you cross the border -
1 - Go with MASSIVE amount of troops. When I hit England with D-day I had 30+ troops land! The computer threw an obscene amount of troops, but I held.

2 - If overseas - Improvement #1 = Harbor! Keep the people on that side of the world happy. #2 = Baracks. You need at least ONE unit upgrade point.

3 - Break the rail net. My invasion vs. England had all type of rear action driving me nuts. Until I took Liverpool, and destroyed the complete rail next north of it. End of rear action. As long as you can keep a thing road / rail net you can move around.

4 - FOCUS your attacks. Nothing can hold up to 10+ artillery attack to long :)

You can also try to get lots of defence units to a mountains square in his area and build a fortress there. Then let him waste his entire army attacking you.
