Goody Huts

A size 4 city with two city improvements .....:crazyeye:

Only a couple of times had a city and size 1 with no improvements...:(

I didn't know you can get a city. But what is the difference between that and getting a settler. With a settler you can move or you can settle that same turn

If you get it through culture it can be bigger than size 1. Haven't gotten improvements in them, yet, though.

But so far, when I've gotten them with units, they are just size 1. I actually would prefer a settler instead because many times the city is in a poor spot. But since sometimes I get these cities when I wouldn't have been able to get a settler anyways, I guess I should just be happy with what I get.

On Goody Hut Discoveries
Here are the conditions:
. . .

Tech:
--Player must still be in Ancient Times

Barbarians:
--Player must not have Expansionist trait
--There must not be a city within a 1-tile radius
--Player must have at least 1 city
--Player must have at least 1 military unit

That's funny, I suspect the tech one is really "there is an ancient times tech which hasn't been discovered by the player", because I think I was in the middle ages once (working on Engineering IIRC) and popped a hut for Republic.

On the barbs one, I know for sure I've been playing an Expansionist+Military civ, and popped barbs.

DaveShack,

Unless you are playing a different game, you didn't pop barbs when you were expansionist. ;)

it's funny.. why should expansionist be exempted from getting barbs?

Because scouts have D=0 and that trait is humble enough in an *average* game (overall value of the expansionist trait depends highly on game settings). Hut-hunting w/ scouts would be quite risky, you would probably build more warriors to explore the world. Then, playing an expansionist civ, would be comparably (e.g. if you look at the Aztecs w/ their jag) a special handicap...

that actually makes a lot of sense... :)

Maybe you hardly met the pre-conditions (mentioned on the first page of this thread) when you entered a hut?

E.g. when you are generally pretty good in early expanding (having more cities than the ai, that is; probably on monarch or lower), you would not pop a settler. I tend to get them on emperor or deity comparably *often* (not too often to be honest), because the ai out-expands me.

I love the free techs especially on Monarch.

And when You build the great library and get 10 or so techs ...
