Got kicked by the host

So I played my first BNW MP game today, boy was I happy :)

That is until I got kicked by the host around the Medieval Era

I am super pissed that two or three guys, probably with smaller empires than me, and thus having much less to handle, kept going on and on about how long I'm taking to take my turns.

They went on for so long that the host actually kicked me out. I couldn't believe it. This one guy - Zoozooboo actually told the others that I always take long. What an . I don't even know this person.

I always build wide empires and always have a lot to control, so it's easy for some people to say you're taking long when all they're doing is controlling three or four units.

Whoever hosts games, please be considerate to the people who are playing with you. To me, this is as bad as people just quitting games.

Its a poor feature, one of the dumbest implementations done by the Civ developers. No reason to add a kick feature in game, if one person can simply decide to kick someone. Like Civ 4, this needs to be a voteable feature otherwise it will remain broken.

Also, if you want to avoid problems like this you should join one of the 2 major Civ Multiplayer groups: No Quitters [NQ] or League [Civplayers]

NQ sees more activity these days, but you could use either of these [Or smaller groups too] to avoid problems like what you experienced

Yes Civplayers would definitely not allow a host to kick players just because they have a larger empire and take longer to play a turn, we do chose game settings for quicker games though.

How does one join No Quitters? They group is invite only. I have been wanting to join for some time, but I can't figure out how?

The problem with groups like NQ is that you commit your time to a game, and then run the risk of playing with some who's not playing seriously and is just trying to mess up your game by declaring war on turn 5. There goes your evening.

Well that is a risk you take with human players....but players like that normally end up on your "do not play" list for the future.

That's a side effect of the You Can't quit till your capital is taken. If you can't win the game due to someone being so far ahead, you might as well set yourself a goal to go out with a bang.

Well that rule is an NQ-ism, at CivPlayers we definitely let teams concede, and individual players if the other players agree. Leaving a FFA/Cton can be unbalancing as it leaves two players with an AI to conquer which is much easier than human players, and gives them an unfair advantage.

Yea the other players don't often agree to let someone concede.

People concede in NQ too just like in Civ Players.

Most people don't try to ruin a game - but people like that exist everywhere.

Yes it is impossible to totally remove the human equation from gaming with rules, we just do our best with what we can, the rest we let peer pressure in the online playground deal with issues :-/

I've had games like that, where, by actually playing the game out, other players in the game had gotten ahead of me. BUT I played the game out! It was a lot of fun. I still built a Civilization. I enjoy that as much as winning. I love seeing how it will all end, and what effect I can still make. I played a game like that this week, it was really fun.

But when someone randomly declares war at the very beginning, the game turns from Civilization to Barbarianization, because all you do is fight lol. You don't build anything.

You can join the team chat as a guest. There you as if an administrator can invite you as a member.

Remember to read the rules. It's easy to become a member, but also easy to be kicked if you should turn out to be a quitter chap. ;)

That's the NQ spirit, sir. NQ is not for selfish people that want to concede at once they can't imagine they can win anymore. NQ is all about respecting the time other people have put into the game, not only your own ego trips. In a game of FFA you are never irrelevant, and the NQ spirit is to always do your best.

I also like the new BNW mechanisms that keeps the victory options very open until late game.

Yeah this happens way too often. Last night I was minding my own business and had a solid tech lead, built out 5 cities and was upgrading my archers to comp bows, when some idiot with 2 cities decides to attack me with archers and warriors. Well they all died in like 3 turns, so I decided to return the favor and start marching into his territory through this giant jungle and realize he has the great wall. Well it's not like I have a carpet of doom or anything, but like 6 comp bows a couple horsemen and a couple warriors but its slow to walk through a jungle with great wall of china.

Anyways, this kid is whining and ing in chat the whole time about how I'm taking too long... meanwhile it's HIM who started the war forcing it to sequential in which I go last... so no I'm actually not taking that long, I don't get to move until everyone else is done. Anyways, I am finally closing in on his capital.. it's like half health and all his ing succeeds in getting my kicked from the game supposedly for being a 'griefer.' What a load of crap. I wish there was a way to remind yourself who the host was and put his games on some kind of ban list so I never accidentally join them again.
