GOTM 103 First Spoiler

Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD! Did you grow fat on all Athena's food, or did you run to find some other land?

Stop! If you are participating in GOTM 103, then you MUST NOT read this thread unless EITHER
  • You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR
  • You have submitted your entry

Posting Restrictions

  • Please do not disclose ANY events or information gained post 1 AD.
  • Please do not reveal your final result if that happened after 1 AD.
  • Please do not discuss the location of resources that may not show up before 1 AD. (Iron is OK, coal and oil are not)
  • Please do not reveal names or locations of any civilization not accessible by galleys.
  • Do not post any savegame file from the game. Discussions and screenshots are fine but not actual games

Challenger save. Assume, this may be even easier, because Prince-level AI is a better trading partner than on noble.

Settled 2W, because
- I wanted the hills in the east rather for the second/production city
- the floodplain-5-food tile in the north promised some more land and a river in the NW, giving ground for some huts.
This proved to be a very lucky decision, as I got pigs and fish in addition, making a great science capital.

I thought about going pottery first, but then decided for AH first (via hunting to provide archery, as we were announced to have no strategic resources), pottery second.

I missed the Oracle, not even tried Literature/GLib, instead pushed growth. Managed to trade silver and gold and get Monarchy, so Madrid is size 12 already. The only wonder I managed to build was TGLH, which is quite useful on this map.

Meanwhile Isabella, a bit fat from all the food, but satisfied and lucky, continued to trade thoughtfully and now builds horse archers with Hatchi's horses. Poor Hatchi doesn't know, she was trading for her own doom. ;-(

On 1AD, Isa has got Feudalism, is 8 turns away from CS, next goal are conquistadores.
7 Cities, 46 POP, being first in GNP, production, score, land, and even power ... first in military? me?? This almost never happens to me. And 3 times the population of the next best civ.

A really good player, probably already wouldhave won a conquest by now, but Isa rather thinks about building more Athena shrines and needs a more massive throne for her increasing weight. ;-)

I settled in place and researched Meditation first, to found Buddhism. I tried for the CS sling, but research diversions to Hunting and Archery (Athena warned me that I'd need those arrows!) cost me the opportunity--Roosevelt beat me to the Oracle by 5 turns.

Still, there's been no trouble from the neighbors and all of that food is growing a decent economy. By 1 AD I have five cities and the GLH, and I've researched Feudalism, which will let me build longbows.

I've got my eye on the barb lands to the west...

Not sure what VC I am playing yet but any thing is possible at 0AD.

Settled 2 west of start and did the worker first start. Decided to ignore the whip for a long time and did not even learn BW for a good long time. Also decided to do an early CS sling, build the GLH (Which was great on this wacky map) in the second city and build the GLib in the capital while working a mined pig.

Tried for the Free Music GA but lost it to G. Man. That is when I decided that there will be a few wars. So may be a diplo game. :D So learned construction by 75 BC.

By the cut off, there were 10 cities including 1 founded on the land to the west and 1 captured with a whipped cat and 3 archers.

The second city became the HE city too and can build 2 cats every 3 turns and will likely be doing that for a long time unless we settle the iron located west of G. Man.

There are 3 turns left to complete Paper and has a GS waiting to bulb education.

Similar to Htadus:

I went 2W, decided that the worker would not be kept busy enough, since I wanted to go mining-BW to get the whip going asap, so went WB first...I also mined the pig, and actually went pottery after BW, before AH!
I too slung-CS and build the GLH, tho I put the LH in city two, and Oracle in the capital. Got a great scientist for an academy as well.

at 0AD, I have 12 cities, and expect to add about 6 more in the next 15 turns. I have finished education, and should be able to start on Oxford in 4 turns (once the 6th university comes in). The capital has virtually no production however, so it might take 30 turns to build it :-(

I am researching at 120 bpt at break even (which is 50%), and am about 15 turns away from PP, which is my next research target (Philo is already in...)

Victory plan... Likely heading to space.... Might be a bit short on happy for that, but so far, I am copping OK (Currently trading for gold and beavers, which is helping, and of course founded a religion from CS, which is well spreadnow).

Settled 1W

GLH in 3rd city and Oracle (CS-sling) in 5th city (chop-chop)

1AD: 13 cities, 74 pop, 108 bpt at 50% break even (no academy), artist from music.

I'm getting gold, silver, fur, dye and marble from trading resources.

My cats have just landed on the shores west, ready to go barb-hunting. :hammer:

Man, you guys did some great expanding. My love for my digital pop may have caused me some REXing. I need to get back to this game sometime this week but there are too many WC games going on and I have 3 on my DVR waiting to be watched........one more turn or Gooooooooooooool...may be both.......what a simple man to do????????

Man, you guys did some great expanding.

3 Cities in 1 AD. 103 research per turn. Settled 2E for a production capital. 2nd city 2W,1N of start (2W is better, where I settled doesn't have fresh water (or sheep)). 3rd city not until 200 BC, further east with wheat, cow, pig and a couple hills.

Teched Mining, Bronzeworking (for slavery), then CS beeline: Poly, PH, Wr, CoL, CS from Oracle in 1440BC.

Plan is catapult rush, but it's hardly a rush now. In 350BC Hatty was last for military and all I have are 2 archers and 2 warriors. Also 2 workers, a workboat and a galley.

Built Oracle, Parthenon (because of all the food), and Great Light House (100 BC).
Have Feudalism and am researching Theology. So, when I get around to building catapults and longbows, they will be well promoted.

Haven't met civ in SW corner (presumably). Haven't been to Gandhi's land, but can see his border above Hatshepsut.

I like the map. Good ideas.

There are 3 turns left to complete Paper and has a GS waiting to bulb education.
If I switched to Paper, I could complete it in 7 turns.
And I built two academies: first in Barcelona then in Madrid; so no GS waiting to bulb education. (Hatty bulbed Philosophy, I could have with the first). But I haven't researched Literature (or Music) yet.
Like most games, I haven't decided on a victory condition. I need to pick one and then continue on.
Oh yeah, I mined my pig too. Forever, all my worker knew how to do was build mines and chop forests.
