GOTM 109 - Ebeneezer Scrooge - First Spoiler

Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD! How did Ebeneezer fare? Did you manage to make much use of the jewellery in the starting area, or was it all spoilt by the lack of hills there? Have you met any AIs? Are you being peaceful and generous or mean and warlike?

Stop! If you are participating in GOTM 109, then you MUST NOT read this thread unless EITHER
  • You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR
  • You have submitted your entry

I settled 3S, the extra fish that appeared was nice. Slow start with only 2 yield tiles around. Decided for 2 workboats first, working the PH even to get the first faster. Also straight mining, BW for the whip. A bit later got lucky and extra gems popped on the PH.

Second city went on marble, third at fish/crab/furs. Eight cities at 1AD. Oracled CS in 1320BC, also landed GLH. Busy with GLib. Paper and philo are in the bag, just starting nationalism at 1AD. Met 6 AIs and will meet the last in 2 turns, which I know courtesy of world maps.

I've been very nice to all AIs, happily complying with all demands, except for DoW and stop trading demands. Think I'll go for diplomation, settled at a horse resource due east so cavs will be an option at some point.

I have played to 1AD today. Decided to stick with Noble, because Toku already has the wheel so no free tech for Warlord. Also happies and healthies are the same at those two levels.

Settled 4N 2E to get the stone. 2nd city due south of there, to block the path from the east where AI scouts were coming from. 4th city to the SW was lost to a Barb archer; it was defended with a barracks-built (2 promo) warrior but no luck. At the moment, 1 AD, I am trying to anti-barb my west but only have warriors and archers, while they have axes. I did pop-rush barracks in my three cities early on, because they get done in 1 turn.

I was surprised to be first to CoL = found Confusianism on turn 109. I am in last place on the scores displayed at the lower right of the screen. I have no diplomacy as I have refused OB (having intentionally blocked the route with my borders). I have a GP waiting to bulb a good tech; right now I am researching Mono which he wants to bulb, we'll see what he can do after we discover that one.

I got Stonehenge on turn 68, missed the Pyramids by about 10 turns at turn 105.

At this point, I think I will be happy to survive to the Middle Ages
