GOTM 127 - Monarch - First Spoiler - 1 AD

How did your early game go?
Where did you settle?

As I recall, you need to go thru England to conquer Germany. Fitting that England will be your first adversary. Remember to leave them with one city if you are playing the Challenge. Anyone go to war already?

Not yet.... though I am massing Elepults on the border with Engerland, hopefully I get to the germans before it goes to penalties...

Oracled CS and built GLH for good measure.

Well, as planned, I went 1 N with the Settler after the Warrior revealed nothing useful. I'm not sure that I agree with the comment in the Pre-game Discussion Thread that it wouldn't have been worth wandering with the Settler--there were a couple of better settling locations available which weren't too far away. Anyway, I made do with what we had.

Without a spectacular capital, I saved my first Great Scientist and will use it to Lightbulb Astronomy. The plan is to send Galleons laden with Settlers to Russia's continent, to keep Russia from REXing too much.

I'll tentatively try for the Map Maker's Challenge, but we'll see how the game develops.

No Wonders for me, with 7 having already been constructed by the AIs.

I did manage to declare war on England and steal a City with a large army of Chariots, so I have at least started off the Challenge in the right direction.

I'm still not sure whether to go after Germany or to keep Germany as a trading partner, since it shouldn't be too hard to conquest Germany's lands later on in the game, assuming that I do so before Germany learns Astronomy and potentially settles overseas in some unknown location.
