GOTM 142 Russia - 1st Spoiler - End of Ancient Times

I recently noticed something very strange in this game. I can still build the great library, long after I have researched education. And by build, I don't mean continuing an already running build but starting a new one from the beginning. I'd there a rule change for this GOTM or is it always like this in PTW (unlikely, but maybe I never noticed 😁)

maybe because it is labelled SCI and you have not had your GA yet? not sure however whether the rules work like that.

This is indeed strange. I will take a look at the GOTM.bix file to see if I notice any error there. I'm pretty sure that usually a wonder can no longer be started from scratch, if it has expired.

I took these screenshots before the GA. Maybe they indicate something that I don't see?

Did Sid tell you: "Sleep is for the weak"?

It's hard to find time for playing civ these days and the only time is when I'm unable to do any other work that I play civ, because I used to think that I may fall asleep at my desk but never near a computer. I guess I wasn't 100 percent correct as I did lose the ability to judge well. [emoji25]
Now on I'll try to play at some other time. At this point I'm worried about just finishing 142 in time and haven't even started on 115 yet. [emoji27]

I checked the settings of the Great Library in the GOTM.bix, and there is no difference whatsoever to how it looks like in the standard PtW bix file?!
So I've no explanation.

Today when I started playing, from somewhere around industrialisation, I noticed that the Great library was no longer available. So I reloaded from a few saves ago and I found that the Great library was available while I was researching magnetism. Therefore I think that the Great library became obsolete, or at least unavailable after entering the IA. That's unusual but at least the GLib does get obsolete.

After around a dozen or so Conquests games, this is my first PTW game now. I didn't take too many notes as I started late and had to play fast.

I settled in place and started on the 4T settler factory, with scout followed directly by granary. Expansion went fairly well, Spain was contained in the north, England stopped their westward movement in the jungle, only America was a bit annoying and settled New York at fairly close distance south of Moscow.

I traded Alphabet with 6 turns left on it, and stayed as close to max research as I could while going Writing, Code of Laws and finally Philosophy. I didn't have much luck with huts, mostly gold and maps with no tech and a single warrior. Not sure where I went wrong, but I was beaten to Philo by the other continent/island AI civ. :(

At 1000 BC my fledgling empire consisted of:
- 1 city, 13 towns (population 34)
- 2 granaries, 1 temple and library
- 8 warriors, 7 spearmen, 8 workers and 1 settler
- connected spices and horses
- Republic in 5 turns, missing Math, Poly, Currency and Construction

I finally entered the MA at 430 BC, with plans of going after Spain soon.
