I ended up losing the space race with one component to go, though I should have lost far sooner. The tech leaders were at war and didn't get around to building space ship parts, I guess. I kept pretty good notes through the early middle ages, then nothing. My special unit survived to be upgraded to mech infantry and never promoted, giving me 5 tricky points, I think.
