GOTM 18 Results

According to his log, he landed a spaceship in 1581. It was launched in 1570 (If 1560 is turn 181, then that's turn 182) and flew for 11 years (I think that would be turn 193).

Thank you Duke of M for the results. I do not mean to be picky but I think all the turns except for the ones finishing in 2020 are off by 1. For example, I finished in 1901, that is 301 turns not 302. Gary Nemo finished in 1660, that is 191 turns not 192.

Another mistake is starlifter's. If he finished in 1560 his turns should be 181 not 193 as reported.

The scores reported are based on the reported turns not dates. For example starlifter's score using the date of his finish would come out to 575 and mine to 179.

I double checked with the Excel file on the rule's page before posting this.
This can be a very confusing issue. It was a pain last year trying to get matrix to accomodate it. Here is waht happens with a SS:

1. You cannot launch a SS before AD0001.
2. When you launch a SS, the years switch to one year intervals per turn.
3. For an 11 year flight, this puts the landing year at Launch +11.

This means you get 10 turns (not 11, since the landing year does not count) of production, while costing only a single turn's increment ot 10 years (in this case). If the spreadsheet used game year to reverse-calculate game turn, SS flyers would get an enormous benefit. This is the way the GOTM used to work. We (meaning Matrix changed the spreadsheet) finally started using the correct thing, and that is Turn Number.

Turn Number, as defined in matrix's spreadsheet, begins with year BC4000 as turn 0. The Civ 2 game uses BC4000=Turn1. That's why there is a 1 year offset. But this offset is the same for all players, so there is no benefit... the offset of 1 year between Matrix' spreadsheet (Turn Number) and Civ 2 (Game Turn) does not change results.

So in my case that you cited, my SS landed in AD1581, and my save was in AD 1580, since we must save one turn before victory for a SS, or before conquer for conquest.

Code:
AD 1570 Fusion; S-Stealth;  ***** LAUNCH SS *****  (Arrive 1581)
AD 1571 Stealth; S-FT001; EIFFEL TOWER;
AD 1572 FT001; S-FT002;
AD 1573 FT002; S-FT003; COPERNICUS; SETI;
AD 1574 FT003; S-FT004; ISAAC NEWTON COLLEGE;
AD 1575 FT004; S-FT005;
AD 1576 FT005; S-FT006;
AD 1577 FT006; S-FT007;
AD 1578 FT007; S-FT008;
AD 1579 FT008; S-FT009;
AD 1580 FT009; S-FT010; 3451@80% Lux. (Game Turn 193)
AD 1581 ********* SS LANDING **********

CIV 2 SCORE
2821 Citizens           (approx 15,810 max)
0560 Achievements       (560 max)
0400 Spaceship          (400 max)
0000 Peace              (100 max)
0045 Future Technology  (1275 max)
0025 Barbarians         (set at start; -50, -25, 0, +25)
0000 Pollution (0 or negative; -10 per skull)

3851 Civ 2 Total Score (On Turn Number 193, the SS landing)

When researching this post, I did notice that on the official results page my landing year is listed as 1560. It is really 1581. But the score is correct (514)... I just double checked it.

Yes, the spreadsheet had the date put on there incorrectly, but the turn is correct. So the score is still correct.

I based all the turn values off of the games reported value. It starts with 4000 BC as turn 1, not 0.

There will be an update done to the results page soon. I have some changes to make to it....:(

Woo-hoo, I finally broke the top 10!! [dance] :beer: [dance]

I hope I am able to do this same for GOTM#19, it took me much longer than anticipated. Thanks to all who've helped me along the road to improvement, especially Starlifter!
