GOTM 35 Spoiler

There was still a trireme route to North America, but only one. On the other hand, it was exactly where an enterprising guesser :D would expect to find it. I thought there was a change to the Bering Strait as well. Was that correct?

Hi, I am brand new to CivFanatics and Civ2 GOTM and have already had fun getting to grips with the competition and its strict rules. It is particularly hard to stop the habit of ‘reloading’ to see if there is a better way to do something and it now takes me longer to do things because I have to think a lot more about it! Beam me up Scotty my brain’s on fire!

A question about the scoring – at the end of my flawed attempt at GOTM35 just before taking the last city in 1735 my civ ‘total score’ was 1144, immediately after I took it my ‘bonus score’ was 2055. Which of these scores are used in the GOTM formula?

I guess I should say I removed the normal Trireme route. ;)

In my game, it did not stop the Spanish from re-enacting history by using a direct route with a *trireme* to the modern-day Carolina coast (from memory, before 1492). Talk about cheating!!

However there was no Spanish colony - I gather their unit must have been eliminated by barbarians from the popped hut!

Well, though too late to submit, I did finally manage to finish up my gotm 35 game. Upon inspection of the top 5 cities menu at the start, you can see that neither the americas or africa is occupied, so I opted to expand to the african choke as quickly as possible, and claim all of the continent. Since I knew that merely africa would not give me a large enough score even after a conquest of eurasia, I decided to quickly tech to navigation even before monotheism. This resulted in 3 cities founded in northamerica, 3 in south america, and africa covered in cities by 1 ad. I then did my normal horsemen massing + leos for mass cavalry and toppled everyone easily in a few hundred years. My mistake I think was going tech once I had the computer down to a settler, thinking that the spaceship score would be worth shooting for. In retrospect, I can see now that space racing is incredibly stupid in GOTM, since the GOTM score negates 500 points (400 space points + 100 peace points) in no time. Ending the game 10 or so turns earlier with a similar score will net you an insane amount of gotm score. For future gotm's I don't think I will ever space race again.
