Htadus
A and L's dad
Finally another GOTM month completed and submitted.
After 0AD, I made a honest effort to go warmonger route with a serious of steps.
Step 1: Get rid of Persia.
This was easy since I was coming at him with cats, swords, axes and spears. Declared on him on 580 AD for the second time and he was gone in year 740 AD
During this time I observed what a great city Chinese were creating for me with several useful Wonders.
Step 2: Off with Chinese state.
This too was a easy war with very minimal losses. War was declared in 940 AD. The Chinese were weak and there forces were split taking a city west of Germany. At first, they were defended by archers and axes, and later there were LB. Cats and swords had no problem with the dreaded LB's. Took 3 of the 4 cities he had by dropping his culture to 0 and using 2 suicide cats. Then the swords. I had good luck with these since at least one cat survived and they were the CR3 cats. Peace for Feudalism and compass in 1190 AD since the last Chinese city is inside Indian culture and It is time for another war, this time with India.
Switch Civics to Police State and Vassalage. And in the mean time culture flipped the French city sharing the gold is island with us. For a change I am not feeling Hostile toward Napoleon.
Step 3. First Indo-German war:
Indian culture was threatening two of the hard won Chinese Cities. I split the force into 2 groups and declared war on Asoka in 1190 AD. We take the two northern most cities. Now we have Maces and muskets. My second fumble in this game occur at this point. (first being dowing Persian with just one warrior to stop them from claiming horses, which they did claim, he just did not settle on the desert tile as I thought) When I split my forces, to attack the indian capital, i did not pay attention to the unit composition and ended up loosing several cr3 swords and maces to cats and indian muskets. I realized that if I kept going toward his capital I would loose the remaining stack of cats (10). So i got peace for Theology in 1300 AD.
Step 2 part deux: Off with Chinese.
By now 10 turns has passed and final war with Chinese took place in 1340AD. Chinese were out of the game in 1380AD.
Step 3 part deux. Finishing India:
At the end of the 10 turns, newly promoted cr3 cannons, Steel Liberated in 1450 AD, were ready to join the party. The three indian cities fell without much trouble and by 1540 AD they were part of history.
Bad planning by me:
During this time, a large German force was gathering near the Mongolian steppes for an across sea adventure. However, the mastermind behind the war effort had forgotten one major requirement for such adventure. Only the original 2 galleys were available to transport about 30-35 units on a Mongolian caravel infested waters. Oh well since I do not like pop rushing and only had 3 coastal cities, it took a while to get 7 ships ready to sail. Another large army was still sitting on their laurels in former India.
Step 4. Delayed Mongolian war:
Once I had 7 galleys, I did two landings before declaring on Genghis in 1555 AD and landing the 3rd group. He had a city founded in fatherland and that was the second city to fall. This war was fought with cannons, maces, cr3 grenadiers and Calvary. It was a massacre. Not much fun. This war was over once he was gone and I had 18+ unhappy faces in my cities. That was due to another boneheaded move by General htadus.
Step 5. The Oops war:
Old habits die hard. Since my first civ4 game, I had an issue with Napoleon. However in this game he was a war ally and a resource and gpt provider. When my fleet reached India to pick up the vets for Mongolia, I thought I should go after Napoleon. So I made a request for 130 gold he had in his treasury. The plan was to declare war if he say no or to keep going to Mongolia if he give the gold. He give the gold and the great German army continue marching toward Mongolia which had annexed a few Greek cities to its folds.
I end the turn and went to sleep. Next morning, Sunday, I wake up early and open the game and as the first official move, DoW Napoleon.
I do not want this war, I was half a sleep when this happened. Nappy will not talk. I have an army of about 40 strong units, that were teleported all over the place, so i take 3 of his cities before he is ready to talk. He give me a city for peace which i promptly give him back. Duh
. Genghis was gone in 1660 AD. when I stopped we are a few turns from learning Biology.
I had a goal of 1500AD as my domination date. When I missed it I wanted to see how much of a score I can get. So I was aiming for Biology but the French cities, which I should have given back, tripped me over the domination limit in early18th century. My score was going down at his point, but I think it would have gone up after biology. It was around 120,000 before starting to go down. However, this is the first time I have scored over 100,000 points in a vanilla-gotm. So I am very happy with the results.
