GOTM 67 Final Spoiler

Only my second GOTM, and my what beautiful land. Finished my rex at 1ad with 11 cities, having just made the switch to Bur. could have gone any direction from there, but culture just felt right - the mapmaker is JESUSIN :D

from there it was your standard cottage cheese. big three were capital, corn pig just south of there, and gold-wheat-incense-copper-marble just northeast (kinda sucked). GP farm was rice-pig-11 farms. got Gsci for academy, 11 Gart bombed 0,3,8. 4 out of the 5 'ism's helped, but the real heroes were my buddies gandhi and washington who were happy to gift gold towards the end to keep me steaming towards the finish...until they weren't, which slowed me 2 turns at 90% culture - jerks.

who knows, maybe noone else went culture, i mean, i can't see why you wouldnt :mischief:

Domination 1730AD (Adventurer save)

Picking up from 1AD, Jeno (Washington) had just declared war. With thoughts of space, my initial plan was just to pillage him, but a scouting boat found New York containing the Mids, GHL, Sistene and an obsolete Henj. Was I tempted? I sure was! This was a critical moment as from here one thing led to another, led to dom...

After taking NY, it felt it was going to be awkward to develop it due to culture pressure and yearn for homeland issues. So I wiped out Jeno (1000AD), but now culture pressure from Elod (Ghandi) was a problem, so he had to go (1310). He also had a prize city with Bangalore containing GLib, Hanging G, Parth and Hag Soph!

I did get lib first in 740AD, but hadn't planned very well for it and took Printing Press.

So with 50% of the land, and two temping targets to the north on the other bank, it was time to cross the Danube. Tohotom went in 1655, Huba in 1690.

I noticed a few coast tiles in the middle of the Danube allowing for very early crossings - was that intentional? If so, it didn't seem to affect anything in my game.

It was fun to have all the resources available. I never needed HR or the Globe, and used just a hint of culture slider to combat WW during the two concurrent late wars. It made what looked an intimidating game much easier (maybe about Monarch?) Even then, it would be my best result to date. I guess a few of the star players really crushed this one.

I don't know if it has been done before, but the inheritance idea also added some interesting choices. Maybe this could be tried in the challanger save in some future GOTM to see what everyone does with it.

Thanks to jesusin and the GOTM team for another great game :goodjob:

1420 AD Domination

Fun game here. Thanks jesusin.

To the questions:

How fast was your REXing?

Don't recall the details since I tend to play the GOTMs when the first come out to 1AD or so, and then finish them up near the end. However, I do recall rexxing fairly fast, at least up to 7 or 8 cities. My first goal was to use Creative to found 4 cities in the south to block off all the land to the north. All 4 cities were very good by the way with lots of food and production. I then fill in the coast in the west to prevent guys from the other land mass try to settle east.

What did you do after the initial land-grabbing phase?

After I secured my borders, I went all out on a Keshik rush of Gandhi. I took him out with 2 wars, using a peace deal to grab up some techs after leaving him with 2 cities.

What have you learned this game?

That I need to be more aggressive trying to achieve victory. Although I didn't wonder whore per se, I did probably build more than I needed. Also, in going for Dom, I'm not sure Ox was really necessary, although I did get it up pretty quickly.

Summary:

As mentioned above, I rexxed out to 7 or 8 cities early to basic secure borders and provide a base in which to Keshik rush Gandhi. I took him out with 2 wars, using 1 peace deal to backfill some techs. In hindsight, I think I could have easily geared up for a 2 front war and taken the whole land mass fairly early.

Mao was my main and really only friend. Sal got to pleased at one point but none of the others were really very friendly. Didn't matter really as I plan to take most of the AIs out. Once I hit CS and Machinery, I launched an attack on Sal. I decided to just keep Mao around for bribes and possible trading. Main force was Mace, cats and some phants/pikes to neutralize his Camels. Basically, the AIs in the west were all in pretty bad shape. Very odd settling patterns that left them with few cities when they could have had more.

Meantime, I Libbed Nationalism and built Taj. Trade for Music and had Cavalry up toward the end. However, Cavalry were never the bulk of my force. I took Sal pretty easily and immediately attacked the yellow guy (Asoka). I took him down in just a few turns. Meanwhile, I put all focus on culture, as much as gold would allow, in order to pop borders as fast as possible.

Another game in which I could have sealed the deal much sooner if I was more aggressive. I think my score was pretty good though, but I like to close the deal on these games sooner.

Another just in time finish and submission. :D
Went for early Space (could have had domination much earlier), 1834 pretty good date for me but not good enough for any awards. Beelined for the Internet (with side trips for Democracy (Statue of Liberty) and Steam/Steel/Railroad (Iron Works, railroads). I don't know if this was a good idea as it delayed Wall Street (never built) and Factories (1 built in IW capital). Did get Music, Divine Right, Military Tradition, Corporation, Facism, Communis, Economics, Combustion and Assembly Line. Ran a specialist economy with mercantilism and SoL scientists; don't know if this slowed down the AIs.

Jesusin, thanks for an easy immortal game. Loved our resources and nice neighbors.
I enjoyed the response from Kond (see screen shot), has anyone else seen this before?

How do you turn off research at Education (until Oxford) and still win the Liberalism race?

Well, it would depend on how close the race is and how close you are to complete unis and OU. A good player can have his cities already to whip unis and chop the OU in very short order and the bonus from OU makes up the time in a big way since you have collected gold to run science at 100%.

Excellent game outcome by the way.

I too went to space but with way too many errors. I was hoping for a 18th century launch but ended up in 19th century as you did, but later than you. I had tech parity for most of the game and had two friendly trading partners in Asoka and Sal. So the tech progress was great. Actually in my hope for getting Bio from Lib, I lost the race to Asoka who happily traded it to me.:crazyeye: Then I made one of the mistakes I wish I did not. I switched to Free Religion and lost the chance to trade for 3 essential techs since both of them stop being friendly. Grrrr.

I never built the NE but did built the coolest looking Glbe city which also had IW. At size thirly it was huge and the biggest I ever did. I only whipped the captured cites.

............One thing I learned (well, already knew it but had never actually put it into practice) was to shut down research after getting Education (200AD) and only firing it up again after OxU was complete (580AD).

I was then able to run 100% science for the remainder of the game, without relying heavily on building wealth (very inneficient, as it is a vanilla game), but obviously helped by 5 GM's trade missions.I was trying to do this but ended up getting many artists. So I managed a few GAges
...............
I checked my XOTM's finishes and found out this was my fastest launch on any version of the game - thanks to jesusin for the extra generous setup! :goodjob:

Excellent finish date and a very respectable OU date. If I can match something like that OU date, I will be joining the space crowed on the current BOTM instead of the conquest plans I have right now. I agree about the map jesusin gave us being fantastic.

@Dhoom,
Look like you did a masters class on domination.:goodjob:

Domination victory, 920 AD
Getting both gold medal and domination award was a good reason for describing this game, although I forgot much about it. My starting moves I have already described in results and congratulations topic about this GOTM.
My first war was started when I was unexpectedly attacked by Chinese, which started with their D-day type experiments. The war resulted in their humiliating defeat at the hands of my proud armies :D I plundered what they had in the name of peace  , and left them only one subarctic coastal city. In that war I used different types of units. In later wars I used only mounted units, at first chariots, but mostly keshiks. Mounted units can reach the front much faster than infantry, that's why I did that. I noticed that Arabs were quite strong, so I attacked weaker opponents instead. I also used to take inland cities first, to get more land for domination victory. Coastal cities were ideal to leave to defeated opponents as their last cities, after making tech-stealing peace :)
