Where did you settle?
Does Gandhi still have a sense of foreboding?
How do you plan to win?

Well I tried something different this time at the start. Something I don't usually do which is attempt a worker steal. I stole the worker OK from Fred but ended up in a very long war I didn't really want and only managed to end it when I teched alpha and gave writing in a peace deal. To top it all I lost the worker to the barbs later as well so a lot of wasted effort for very little gain.

Just before 1AD I managed to get to 5 cities. 1 captured from the barbs and nowhere else to settle. So the plan was to tech towards construction. Mass cats and take on Fred for some of his land. Didn't help that he had feudalism either.. :(

At least I had a couple of plus points. I did manage the Oracle for MC and was first to alpha to help with a few tech trades. Other than that things not looking great.

I settled the capital in place, then a small production city to the very near west, then another small production city to the very near east, then a GP farm to the very near south (missed a nicer GP farm to the SE), then a city on the SW marble (still available after all that time). I may have lost turns building Stonehenge instead of settlers/workers. Didn't settle aggressively enough.

Gandhi feels much better now. (Maybe it was a kind of joke, after all...). After going through the foreboding jungle, he met very nice people. (Random maps with four particularly aggressive leaders played very differently...)

The plan is: capture the best cities of Peter, then go for a cultural win.

Here is the detailed version with live comments. I used autolog and alt+E. Very convenient. Only problem: once, I ordered the workers to build unneeded cottages because I was typing my entry... into the game!

Spoiler :
Turn 0/460 (4000 BC)
The warrior won't stay on the pig, I'll take the risk. There is always the fish in case of emergency.
Settle in place.
The hill plains might have been a better choice. The coast is probably useless and not good for expansion. And a GP farm would have been great there.

Turn 2/460 (3920 BC)
Exploring SW. Lots of coast?

Turn 9/460 (3640 BC)
Frederick. Not a too aggressive leader, I think.

Turn 10/460 (3600 BC)
Elizabeth. Not an aggressive leader, I think.

Turn 15/460 (3400 BC)
Worker ready. Build a scout. Maybe a waste of hammers. We'll see.
I won't try Stonehenge before the stone is available.

Turn 18/460 (3280 BC)
I didn't meet any lunatic yet but I'll go for archery.

Turn 20/460 (3200 BC)
Roosevelt. Not an aggressive leader either. Who will be the last one?
The scout and research are taking forever. The governor works the unimproved pig instead of the gems. It's a bit too much.
I force the gems.

Turn 22/460 (3120 BC)
Pig is ready. I trust the governor again.

Turn 23/460 (3080 BC)
Peter. I'm not sure, but police state as a favorite civics is not a good sign.

Turn 33/460 (2680 BC)
The governor avoids gems again. This time, emphasizing gold gives good results.

Turn 35/460 (2600 BC)
The stone is connected. I try Stonehenge.

Horses and elephants to the south.

Turn 36/460 (2560 BC)
I remove the enhance gold button. Slows production.
On the other hand I still don't have bronze working, so I will chop to improve production.
So, bloodbath or cultural contest? Maybe both.

Turn 37/460 (2520 BC)
My warrior and 3 scouts are stuck South of Frederick's border.

Turn 39/460 (2440 BC)
Nobody likes Peter. Frederick might be a protective shield, but I need open borders.
By the way, my only scouting archer got killed by a barb archer, even if protected by the jungle!

Turn 42/460 (2320 BC)
Stonehenge ready. I need to expand very quickly so I build a settler.

Turn 44/460 (2240 BC)
Plan: Attack Peter, protected by Frederick's borders. (unless he uses galleys)

Turn 46/460 (2160 BC)
Missed the GP farm to the SE.
I settle a small production city to the very near west.
I could kill 3 scouts in one move. Quite a diplomatic incident it would be!

Turn 47/460 (2120 BC)
The game senses my lack of skill and pops a silver mine 2S1E of the capital.
Stonehenge might be useless. My only city for a while won't need to expand the borders.

Turn 48/460 (2080 BC)
Oh! Oh! I think I spotted Peter's borders. He's definitely my next target.

Turn 51/460 (1960 BC)
Open borders with everybody.

Turn 56/460 (1760 BC)
I will settle a third city to the near east. A small production city. This might be enough.

Turn 61/460 (1560 BC)
The capital might become a GP farm. Stonehenge will pollute the pool.

Turn 62/460 (1520 BC)
Later, the workers will build roads to Peter.

Turn 68/460 (1280 BC)
I gift writing to Roosevelt. Not valuable enough.
Gift writing to Frederick too. He has Iron Working.
Gift mysticism to Elizabeth.
I could have iron working for pottery and alphabet, but I don't feel I should.
On the other hand, who will trade with him (except me)? Alphabet might be useless for him.

Turn 69/460 (1240 BC)
Roosevelt has the pyramids. At least Peter won't switch to police state too quickly.
I accept to close borders with Peter on Roosevelt's demand. Hope it will anger Peter at Roosevelt.
Traded iron working for alphabet with Frederick. He's pleased now. Me too. Iron near the second production city.

Turn 72/460 (1120 BC)
Elizabeths asks for alphabet. I agree. She is pleased but still doesn't want to trade.

Turn 75/460 (1000 BC)
I got lucky. The capital pops a great scientist!
I realize that I could have settled the first production city one tile to the south and get a grassland hill.
I got lucky again: discovered silver in the first production city!

Turn 79/460 (900 BC)
I settle a potentially great GP farm to the near south, using the pig from the capital. Potentially cottagable too. Could have settled aggressively near the SW marble.

Turn 82/460 (825 BC)
The marble might have been useful for the great lib, and the national epic. Well.

Turn 86/460 (725 BC)
They still didn't build the Oracle! Should have settled on the marble and researched priesthood.
The great library is probably a waste of time. I'll build military.
Peter DOWed Roosevelt. Roosevelt might ask for help.
Or workers/settlers.

Turn 97/460 (450 BC)
I settle on the marble to the SW. Can use corn eventually.

Turn 102/460 (325 BC)
They don't want to trade techs.
Building a stack.

Turn 106/460 (225 BC)
(pause)

Turn 111/460 (100 BC)
Roosevelt suggests war. I accept.
I discover that marble city has opened a hole in the cultural shield of Frederick.

Turn 112/460 (75 BC)
Peter's chariot appeared through the hole. At least I know the place.

Turn 113/460 (50 BC)
The cultural hole is closed again.

Very similar to sleepless. Settled in place, stole a worker (he made it back home), and got a long war for the trouble.

Explanded to 5 tightly packed cities, and just redeclared to take some more land from Fred.

I did sling CS, so research is going OK. no other wonders. I should be able to take enough land from Fred, and also be the first to lib, so long term, I should win. Have not commited to a plan as to how yet...

Just started the game today, not sure if I'll have time to finish it. :(

When Frederick got Construction he was willing to trade Ivory for Stone+Gems, so I rushed 5 WE and DOWed on him.

At 1AD my army of 12 cats, 5 WE, 7 axes and 1 Sword is marching through Germany. Berlin (Iron, Wine, Corn, Silk and Clam), Cologne (Horses, Iron and 2 Ivory) and Münich (Rice and Sugar) are mine. :p (Hamburg in 2 turns ;))

Frederick never did build any WE :crazyeye:

Hopefully my army will keep marching... :D
