Surprised no one has posted yet. My general plan is to tech up to Guilds and overrun the starting continent with Conquistadors, then go for Astronomy and see what the rest of the world looks like.

Settled in place. Scouting Warrior meets Bismarck in 3680BC and a second Bismarck in 3440BC. Thought that maybe this meant all AIs were Bismark, but the early founding of Buddhism and Hinduism suggests not, and meeting Alexander and Victoria confirms it. A few Barbarians wander into my territory in the early years, but they all suicide themselves against forest-fortified Warriors.

Second city founded 2160BC, to the north of the capital on a plains hill with Wheat, Horses, Cows and an Oasis.
Third city founded 1680BC to the east with 3FP, Cow, Wheat and Silk.
Fourth city founded 900BC north of city three with Iron, Cow and Sugar and just three tiles south of a Barbarian city.
Someone else built the Oracle very early, before I even started it.

At 700AD, my first batch of Swords arrive at that barb city and crush the two Warrior defense. Metal Casting finishes around 600BC and I whipped several Forges a turn later. At 550BC its time for DOW on Bismark (grey one). Great luck on the opening attack: my 4 CR1/2 Swords take down 4 (3 with CG) Archers without a single loss. My troops move onward to take the German capital in 325AD, with no losses and two Workers captured. Cease Fire next turn.

At 475BC a random Gems popped in the mine to the west of my capital, which was a nice boost to commerce. Pyramids finished in 375BC. After growing, the capital is running an Engineer to pop a Great Engineer for bulbing Machinery and the other core cities are running 2 Scientists each to keep research going during expansion.

War on Greece started in 250BC. First city captured a turn later, getting access to my first religion (Confucianism - have not seen the others and I think they spawned on another continent). After cutting off Copper, my Swords take the next city (with Stonehenge) in 75BC. This city had leftover Phalanxes and was a bit tougher to crack, with two Swords lost. Diverted some troops to burn a minor coastal city and should be able to take the capital, which is defended only by Archers, in three turns. Also ready to capture a Barbarian city on the south coast with Silver, Horses and Sheep next turn.

Currently, I'm a few turns away from Feudalism and ten turns from popping the Great Engineer, then its time for Guilds and Conquistadors to wipe out the eastern AIs - in retrospect this is probably overkill since they still have just 1-2 Archers in each city. At least this tech path leads to Optics and Astronomy (should have a 1-2 Great Scientist to help with these), so the Conquistadors can be unleashed elsewhere soon.

1AD Stats: 9 cities (4 built, 5 captured), 36 pop, 12 workers, 24 units (5 Warrior, 2 Chariot, 7 Axemen, 10 Swordmen), 2 strategic resources, 3 luxury resources, 5 health resources (7 total surplus resources), 0 great persons, 2 World Wonders (built Pyramids and captured Stonehenge), 0 National Wonders, Food/production/commerce = 29 / 70 / 89 134 bpt at 100%, 49 bpt at break-even (20%), 17 great person points per turn, 76 gold in treasury, 6 granaries, 4 libraries, 4 forges, 4 barracks, 1 religion (in one captured city), 8 of 12 cottages worked, 15 Techs including Monarchy and Metal Casting, Feudalism arriving in 4 turns at max rate. Score 590 / 49,681

I was a bit late in posting the thread, so probably missed a few people posting.
Sorry about the mulitple Bismarks, it was a mistake.

This is indeed a lucky start to a war. :)

I am playing, and Indeed was going to earlier, but the thread was not here... Then I forgot....

1AD Stats (Actually, these are for 25AD, which was a much more natural stoping point in my game, but they should still be OK): 9 cities, 48 pop, 5 workers (+2 being built), 13 units (8 Warrior, 5 Chariot), 2 strategic resources (+Fe when I want it), 2 luxury resources (+ wine in 2 turns), 4 health resources (+Cow, PIg when needed), 1 great persons (GP, sigh...), 3 World Wonders (Oracle, MIds, HG), 0 National Wonders, Food/production/commerce = 100 / 55 / 48, 248* bpt at 100%, 190* bpt at break-even (60%), 55* great person points per turn, ~0 gold in treasury, 8 granaries, 5 libraries (+1 next turn), 1 religion (in 5 city, with shrine), 5 of 5 cottages worked, 25 Techs (Calender, CS, Paper, Currency, Monarchy, IW), with edu arriving in 3 turns at max rate. Time: 3:45, Score 816 / 63K.

*these numbers are artificial. I have hired ma scientist to push to edu. They will go way down in 3 turns when I start building the universities instead.

I am attemping a new way to get to space fast... The plan is EDU asap (The Gr profit was NOT part of that plan), followed by rushing to knights (cuirassers in this case) and sweeping up AI's to the dom limit, before pushing on to space. We will see how that works out.

Having met 4 of the 6 AI already, Astro might actually not be as important as I first expected... That leaves only 2. Unless they somehow got to friendly status early, or are both MM or something, then they likely will not be trading amongst themselves, so may well be pretty backwards when I find them.

Indeed, Calender was probably a mistake... I might have been better off going MC instead, or something else which would have moved me towards night. I suspect this will delay me a bit, but I am still hoping to put up a decent date, given the Gold start.

Jastrow, your nice stats and way higher tech total makes me realize that I should have probably been trading with the AIs instead of killing them.

@Minou,

In some ways, this is related to some things I am currently trying out, and a discussion that I am having with Mitchum about what the fastest path to space is...

Option A, is to start killing AI out of the gate, take their lands as early as possible until you get to just under the domination limite, and from that huge city/population bases, recover the economy, and build the economic basis to power to space.

Option B, which I am/will employ this game, is to first build up a significant research base, including currency, CS, and even up to oxford, and then turn to taking out the AI land. (I plan to do that with Conquistadors here, with catapult or cannon support as needed).

Which of the two approaches is faster is still unclear to me.

This is perfectly fine with my last minute play schedule. :D

I just recently played to 1000AD and can not remember anything. Got 6 cities and Oracled Machinery just around 900BC. Then decided to go warring. English were advanced, so she had to go down to 1 city for several techs. Then it was yellow Biz, By this time it was 1AD so I can't say anymore.

Capital built the Glib, Colossus and TGLH, and Yellow Biz donated the Mids. My son wanted me to have CR7 be the MP for Barcelona and Messy MP Madrid. He has a sense of humor. So I named the warriors thusly. Madrid the Oracle and the HE and will be able to build a conquistador per turn.

First GS built an academy and the second was waiting to part bulb Astro.

I am planning to go for a Domination; either for speed or score. I have never used the UU, so instead of more powerful and usually sooner arriving Calvary units, I will tech Guild for a change. Then to Astro and Bio.

It's time to take some lands... But Hey! I really don't learn how to balance war and growing !

With 18 Cats you are going to have a few more cities pretty quickly I would suggest.
