Is the music industry as cut throat as it seems?

Have you met any fellow artists?

A typical sloppy start for me.

Settled on turn 2, 3E1S below the lake, after moving scout SE and deciding I wanted fewer flood plains and less ice in the capital. Blue circle moved (I know, I should ignore them) so spent an extra turn exploring with the settler. I think this was all a mistake, but oh well.

Tech path: Agriculture, Archery (I thought I would need it for the raging critics), Wheel (for pottery and for something for the worker to do),
AH (let’s see if we have horses), [Oh, we do – in the tile where I just built my first and only cottage  ],
Mysticism (for 2nd city borders and Oracle path), Polytheism, PH, CoL (800BC) , Civil Service (from Oracle), Alphabet,
[Mining & Math and (later) Bronzeworking from trades],
Literature, Construction, Iron Working, bulbed Philosophy (300BC)
{researching metal Casting and to be followed by Machinery for Macemen}
Founded Confucianism and Taoism.

3 cities: Athens S of lake, founded 3920BC, 6 pop; Sparta NW of cows founded 1920BC, 7 pop; Therm 2E of fish founded 75BC, 1 pop. None are great, but I split the 9 flood plains into 4, 1, 4 so only 1&1 unhealth.
Very little production. So, I am working tiles like 2H and 2H1F.

First order of business was protection from barbarians, then spawn prevention.
In 725BC spawnbusting completed everywhere but to the west, and oracled civil service, and Eminem built Stonehenge (no other 1AD wonders) . [What a difference from BOTM73!]
700BC Sparta borders have expanded and my worker is ready to mine the Silver, but oh wait, I don’t know mining yet oops.
675BC Tupac Circumnavigates
Units went exploring in mass to the west once home was secure. Found a barb city on a hill and more land. I will bring them home when I have copper hooked up. No barb axemen so far.

Units: 2 workers (none captured), 1 scout, 2 archers, 5 chariots, 5 warriors, 3 catapults
Killed: Panther, Wolf, Bear, 26 warriors, 13 Archers
Lost 1 Archer

I generally have a big problem of not chopping my forests enough. This will not be the game to cure me of that! There are no grass forests in my area and I haven’t chopped any. Plan is to build lumbermills in all the icy forests. Since we are encouraged to go to Rock & Roll, I will be going to either Space or UN. Hopefully I can launch before 2100AD. :crazyeye:

Next step is to conquer Tupec with catapults and maces, but that’s a ways away.

MC Hammer is going to be huge! He has gold, gems, marble, etc and no ice. I did most of my trading with him. So, maybe I will need to continue on to him; else keep him as a trading partner.

I have not explored Eninem's nor Nicky Minage's land.
Maybe I should look up all these artists on youtube? Not my kind of music. :old:
Screen Shot: critics lined up for the next performance.

=================
OK, I’ve now played GOTM98 enough to meet all the leaders and civs. Now I can design GOTM99.
I guarantee that none of the leader names will be repeated. And also promise that it will be a different map type and that not all of the civs nor all the leaders will be included. :mischief:

I am not familiar with this map type and can not tell what is the difference from some sort of snakey fractal map but it was definately a sneaky map :p

I had originally thought I would settle 1E but the it seem too silly to waste a fp. So instead, I wated a forest and settled 1NE on T1. Darn silver. Grrrrr.

Started a worker as first build and learned agriculture as first tech and it was followed by AH, TW and Pottary. The first worker came a few turns before AH, so I chose to farm a fp until just before AH and move the worker to cow tile to build the pasture. This is when I found out the nearly completed farm tile had horses. After the worker, the Capital was allowed to grow to size 3 while building 2 warriors and then a settler was built. The intended second city site was immidiatley south of the capital on the ice tile. But when the settler was done on T33, I thought that tile may contain copper. So then it was off to finding another suitable site to build the second city and play hide and seek with a barb lion, for 13 indecisive turns. I kill me.:crazyeye:. The funny thing is that I almost ended up settling on the copper to SW of the capital but the lion sort of help me not make the mistake.

In the meanwhile I had a feeling that it was possible to circumnavigate the map with the original scout. Unfortunately I chose the wrong branch of the map to send the scout. Eventually my warrior failed to do the job by about 10 tiles to 2pac. That ticked me off.

So I attacked his capital with 3 chariots while it was at 20% culture defense and a single archer defense. Oh nice try but it was a failure. But I did get a worker out of it. I only lost 1 chariot and had 2 retreats. So I limped my mad chariots back and took peace.

Next I was heading to get MC from the Oracle and realized CS was also available when the Oracle was completed. So I chose CS over MC. At least my poor planning was rescued by plain jane civ requirements. Anyways by then I was planing a real war with Tupaq.

At the end of the set on 25AD, I had captured his capital and another city when I realized that I could build Maces to go with my cats in 7 turns (5 actually with deficit research using city capture gold) if I change my tech choice from Paper to Machinary. So at 25 AD I am healing my units and building more cats.

The capital has good many cottages and 2 surrounding cities has been developing them when the happy limit allows and it has an academy as well as the GS to learn Education en route to better things. Oh yeah, After 2pac, it has to be MC hammer since he just built the Mids and the Parth. I need to send 2 workers and an axe to build me a long and winding road.....oh wait...that is not right. Oh....I feelUnder Pressure. :D

It took me a while, but I finally got the pun... "Vanilla" Civ 4 + "Ice" World Map = the rapper Vanilla Ice.

Challenger saved game. I settled in place, thinking that I would just have to aggressively expand to grab +1 Healthiness Resource in order to make up for the missing Cow... I'm not convinced that I met my own goal of aggressive expansion, though.

1 AD Stats:
6 Cities (3 of which have zero infrastructure due to being new Cities)
21 Population
No wars
The Oracle (for Civil Service) is the only Wonder that I have managed to build
I have most of the techs in the tech tree at the Literature column... Calendar, Construction, Currency... but not Machinery

I had hoped to be able to Chop a lot of the capital's Forests, but I needed them around to combat the Unhealthiness from all of these Flood Plains.

The Raging Critics have been aggressively pouring into North America. Can a couple of Chariots defend successfully against incoming Axemen? They're going to have to learn how to! Sure, I get the extra retreat chance by attacking, but no bonus for attacking Axemen, so it's going to be tight.

So far, each of the enemies whom I have met, besides the one closest to our starting area, have built 1 of the early-game Wonders. I'm not going to say which Wonders, though, since with the slow pace of Wonder completion in this game, it might almost be spoilerish info for anyone else that has made it this far in the game.

So, what's next? Ummm, survive the Barbs for one.

After that, let's ask Tupac. Maybe I can play a game of Me Against the World, where I bring some California Love to the hearts of the enemy people. As one of Amerikaz Most Wanted, I can bring some Changes to this place, while they Picture my Chariots Rolling Until The End of Time. :p

All those critics look scary Deckhand!!

Sorry about the silver Htadus, but at least you got the horses :)

I am glad you got the pun Dhoom, I put a lot of work into it. MC Hammer says You Cant Touch Him, so good luck everyone.

SIP and researched AH first, then Mining/BW. Second city was founded north by FP and seafood.

My scout found Tupac early and I saw Warriors in his capital, so I built a few Chariots. Before I reached the capital he founded a second city in between his capital and mine. At 2280BC, I attacked and burned this city (defended by Warriors). Unfortunately, this caused Tupac to upgrade to Archers in the capital and because of the hill bonus and also barbarians keeping two of my Chariots busy defending the homefront, it took a long time to capture the capital. He attacked out of the city twice and won (a loss would have let me attack), but finally the third archer attacking out lost and I had 5 to 2 advantage, just enough to wipe him out in 1240BC.

Aside from that, I took some "free" cities from Barbarians and Oracled CS in 500BC. I'm planning to invade MC Hammer with catapults, but the path is so long it will take forever to walk an army there. Most of my cities are building units, except for Pyramids in the capital (will need to chop a lot of forests for this one) and Great Lighthouse in my third city.

The game:
- I SIP, tech Animal Husbandry (Wow, horses :nya:...), built a dozen of Chariots and took two cities of Tupac (dead). Took one from Barbs and settled 4 more.
- Barbs disturbed a little :whew: (main in the northern lands)
- My intention is settled more cities and march to dominate the world, since we do not need a naval force :hammer:…
