The submission page has been upgraded to help us more fully automate the game submission and validation process. This thread is to help explain the changes, and make sure the community is aware of the new locations and submission requirements of the new pages. The pages can be accessed from the upper left menu of any page on the GOTM website.

--------------------------

GOTM Submissions: http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/gotm.php

- Accepts SAV and ZIP files for the save upload.
- Requires all fields to be filled out before the submission will be accepted.

QSC Submissions: http://gotm.civfanatics.net/submit/qsc.php

- Accepts SAV and ZIP files as the save upload.
- Accepts TXT, HTM, HTML, and ZIP files for the timeline upload.
- Requires all fields to be filled out before the submission will be accepted.

--------------------------

All files are renamed automatically when uploaded based on the rest of the input. This will allow us to link to the files dynamically from the information which is stored in the database. Until we can implement a login for the pages, it would really help if all players would submit with their forum logins (case sensitive). Otherwise automatic generation of Global Rankings and games played lists may not include all your results in one place. (ie. PlayerX and player_x would be treated as seperate players, even if the submissions were from the same person) We are currently in the process of going back through past results and trying to reduce the naming variations as much as possible.

Also the version info for your game is very important, as the saves from PtW won't load in Civ/Mac, and vice versa. The version you are playing shows up in the lower left corner of the Civ/PtW startup screens.

If you run into any problems with the new submission pages, please contact me through PM or email.

Thanks,

Aeson

Also we've set up an automatic page to log all the submissions made for the GOTM21 and QSC21:

Month 21 Submissions Received

We will be adding another column to the tables to note whether there have been any problems with the submissions by the end of the month. You should receive an email and/or PM from a staff member if a problem arises in any case.

Sounds like a good move, but :

Are you sure ? I loaded PTW1.14, Civ3 1.29 and even Mac games into my PTW 1.21 version last month. I couldn't check whether the result was completely the same as on the original machine, but it looked ok except for the resources...

Anyway, glad to see this process cleared out.

The 1.29f starting saves load in PtW. The end saves almost never do, at least for me. For GOTM19, the Balkan Dragoon for instance is referenced in the 1.29f save files, but not in the PtW text files, and causes a crash.

I posted recently regarding a workaround to load any version (can't find where though), but stating the correct version (and class) is very important for other reasons also.

Off the top of my head, it's important so that the caption that Xevious and I place on the QSC minimaps is correct. It's important because we sort the games in Excel for comparison by class and version. I'm sure Cracker and the other staff members do similar types of things for the QSC/GOTM and for other reasons.

You know how Cracker says that if I could make this flash and whistle and slap you upside the head and all that? Please, Please make sure your username is spelled the same and uses the same capitalization as your civfanatics membername and that your class and version is correctly stated!

1.29f games loaded into PTW can also show some weird discrepencies, like the dates of when cities were founded in the city view screen is different than the what the replay of the game shows.

Last month the luxuries for civ129 games was different and they were in the wrong places when loaded into PTW. I bet they are just in different spots in the 129 and ptw .sav file. I wonder if a utility can be written to fix them....

So am I correct that a submission of the excel qsc spreadsheet I use cannot be uploaded unless it is in zip format?

Yep. I asked the same question in a PM.

So, if I am reading everything correctly, we don't need to rename our save file to include our user name.

Am I right in assuming this?

If you zip up your saves (and other files), it would still be greatly appreciated if you make sure to name the files inside to include your user name. The actual file you upload (SAV or ZIP) will be renamed to look like this:

name_game_version.ext (ie. Aeson_GOTM21_PTW121.zip)

Actually, I should probably make the statement more strongly than Aeson did and that is only because files without member names built in can be a disaster. Even if your name is on the zip fodler or if we have the auto uploader rename the files to include your member name we still need you to personally take responsiblilty to make sure that you member name is the first part of any submitted file name.

The reason for this is that files often get separated onto different paths during the review and results preparation process. If everyone was asleep at the wheel and submitted their save files to the QSC names as "Alexander of thr Greeks, 1000BC.sav" then it would be a nightmare as the folders are open and reviewed.

Each month, we end up wasting 4 to 6 hours just dealing with oops or doufus naming issues with less that 5% of the game submissions.

So, put your correct member name on everything.

The game disaster that you prevent may be your own.

When are you going to release the score calculator? I want to see how I did.

What I did for the moment was use a game that was similar to compare. GOTM15 Russia was Continents on monarch = 5500 Jason points. GOTM17 Carthage Archipelago on regent = 6894, so I assume something an between.

I dont want to rush you - I would rather have results sooner than the score calculator sooner, and I am amazed that you people run this even though you have jobs/real lives.
