GOTM save file gives me a "Load failed" message

Hello all,

I am fairly new to Civ4 and was hoping to try the Game of the Month. I bought Civ4 through Steam and am running Windows 7. I have downloaded the HOF Mod and went through the steps to get it to run with Windows 7. The Mod loads fine, but when I try to load the GOTM save file, the "Loading other Civs" box appears, then just before it should go to the game screen a dialog box with "Load failed" appears in the top-right corner and the game crashes. I have a clean copy of Civ4 (I just uninstalled and reinstalled it from Steam) - I have not changed anything in any folders or files.

I also ran the AssetsChecker program and it came back with two errors:

"Vanilla: Assets\CvGameCoreDLL.dll <-- Error: files do not match" [note that I have not modified anything in this or any other file]
"Vanilla: PublicMaps\aDebugMap.py <-- Error: extra file"

My thought is that the problem is coming from the fact that I got the game through Steam. I've searched the forums and found threads describing people having similar problems, but haven't found a solution. I have found people saying they have gotten GOTM to work with Steam, so hopefully someone can help me out?

Thanks!

Hi 3791, it sounds like that maybe you don't have BtS or you haven't patched it. This is an extract from the GOTM site.

Windows Players: If you have NOT installed Beyond the Sword version 3.13 or 3.17 then you either need to do so, or you need to replace the CvGameCoreDLL.dll file in your Civ4 \Assets\ folder to emulate this installation. Download the replacement file here.

Hope this helps.

I've downloaded Beyond the Sword and Warlords (again from Steam) and started both programs (just as far as the Civilopedia - I haven't actually played a game in them yet). I then went back and tried to open the GOTM file and got the same "Load failed" crash again. What exactly do I need to do to make sure that the CvGameCoreDLL.dll file (which seems to be causing the trouble) is exactly the way the HOF Mod wants it to be?

Download the one from the link in my previous post.
