Maybe somewhere down the road we could have sucession teams that play the GOTM and go into the HOF. We could have 5 teams or so and play like 20 turns at each sitting or something. Standard rules could be decided at the time of implementation. Just an idea.

We can do that maybe once or twice. It sounds like fun!

CornMaster, perhaps I'm just a dumb Dutch loser, but I don't quite understand. Would you care to elaborate?

I doubt anyway whether it is ever possible to implement it in the current situation, or better: the situation of the end of the week

Don't be so harsh Matrix. I'm never clear enough. Ok. There would be teams of 5 players. Each one would play 20 turns at a time, and then pass on to the next person (just like the succession games in the Stories and Tales Forum). Then when the game is finished, the last player would submit the final saved game (and any other you want) to you. Then you just add the teams to a team high score list (or you could intergrate it to the main list, I don't care either way). This would add a little more fun and team work to the GOTM. Also Leowind and the like who have trouble finishing the game by themself would have team mates that would play some of the turns.

I hope that's clearer. Or is it a clear as mud?

A problem could arise if people play single player games and team games, then they could get a sneak peak at the map and share with their peeps, or use for their own knowledge.

This can be avoided in 2 ways.

1) Only allow players to play single player OR team games.

2) Have a different GOTM for team players. (Although this would only be feasible if there was a large interest in team play, but would allow everybody to play both types).

We should see the response for team play and try a #1 for a month. If it's a positive experance and people want more, then we could throw in a little #2.

Ahh...

Well...sure, people may play a GOTM as a team, but it's gonna be hard to implement, having the Hall of Fame and especially the global ranking. Perhaps, when Thunderfall will release the update for the GOTM, you'll see why. If many people want to, I could think of something though.

To be honest, personally I don't really like it . I'll always play for myself anyway, and I think it's much more fun to have individual results. But I'm not the only one who can think, so:

Everybody, you opinion please! Is it a good idea?

Well, let's see. The first 20 turns take less than 20 minutes; the last twenty turns can take 20 hours. Deciding who plays which turns could become a game unto itself.

I know others can play this game better than I can, but my joy is in picking a strategy and then trying to make it work. What's the fun in completing someone else's strategy?

Count me out.

I think that I would be a great thing to try!!! I'm sure that there are lots of people who would like to give it a shoot!!
But one thing, how are the teams made?? Because if you just let us do that, then there are probably going to be a few good teams with all the great players and some not so good teams with the not so good players!!! If you randomly decide who is on what team then I think it has potential!!!

BTW, of cause there should be two different maps, one for team GotM and one for single player GotM!!

You're probably better off getting the succession games better established here at civfanatics before trying to work them into GOTM.

We're still working the bugs out of the GOTM with single players. Let's stabilize that before you add too many other things.

That's absolutely true! We should wait anyway until we have finished a Game of the Month and seen how it really works. (Therefore please see the new update and post your comments in the "new update" topic!!)

GOTM is fun.
Succession games are probably fun (I need a 2.7.8 version only team before I can comment).
Mixing the two... Hmmm... I agree with Tim. Let GOTM stabilise first.

You couldn't mix the individual GOTM and the succession GOTM, because you would have to be rigid and say no one in a team could play individually and vice versa (because of map peeks), and that would really screw the rankings when we get that going.

So that leaves you with two separate GOTMs in which people could enter both. But I'd give it three months first. If it's that good an idea it won't go away.

As for teams........we could make our own teams. And who cares if there is a super good team.
It's all for fun.

But I agree....We should let the GOTM become stable first. I propose a tentative test run in May?

As for first 20 turns taking less than 20 minutes and the last 20 taking more than 20 hours....your right. But in the first sucession game at Apolyton.....I went first. I played my first 20 (or maybe 15) turns in 2 and a half minutes. Now I got 3 turns in that game, and we had 10 players. Also we were a bunch of strangers and getting a hold of each other was tough.
Now.....if 5 friends get together and play as a team they will get double the turns (6, and we only played to the 1800's I think.) and communcation would be faster = better transfer of games. This would be a good experance. You could also corridinate your stragity. If won't player is good at war then when his turn comes he might wage war. The next player might be better with trade. Then he would establish trade routes and get money. I, for example, are really good at early exploration, so I would play the first turn so we know what's going on. Combining strengths of players will be interesting and fun.

After you get your 5 friends, you make up a team name, (if you don't have enough players then you could post and ask if people want to join your team.) And get started. I think it will be a lot of fun. If you have anymore questions....just ask.

I think the succession game idea sounds really fun, but I'm on the fence as far as implementing in GOTM is concerned. I agree we should wait a bit.
As for being one who has difficulty finding time to finish a game, I'm not sure this would help; the whole team would be waiting a week for me to get in my three minutes before they could continue. I don't think I'd want to be responsible for what might happen if 4 other CivFanatics had to wait that long to play a game

I think that I'm with Tim and Stormerne on this one. The succession game has been great so far, but I also like the singular play of the GOTM. In essence, the succession game is just like having GOTM teams. I would think that if there are a lot of people who would like to play on teams that the succession games could be expanded.

Also consider that people with MGE and Classic versions would have to work apart - something that is happening in the succession area right now.

Well i think that Tim has it put nicely !!!

I agree, let the succession games become firmly established before we try to combine them with the GotM. I think that it has some potential, but right now I still have some trouble tracking the succession game that I participate in!!!

And I still think that the Teams should be random, to make thing more fair for everyone!!

I concur, let's put cornmaster's idea in the fridge for a month or two and first play a couple of GOTM's, so we can work out all the glitches. Later on it should absolutely be implemented, cause there's nothing more fun than doing a game together & against eachother. I regret the fact that I'm not part of the succession game in the Stories & Tales forum...

Have no fear, Pedro. As much fun as the succession game has been I am sure that we will many more.

Speaking of which, given the time it has taken with the succession games, I am now not so sure that teams would be possible in GOTM. There would be major dificulties, I would think, in trying to get the game done in a month's time. I realize that this is our first succession game effort and there are some bugs to try to ferret out, but even so time may be a major issue.
