Hello,

I have only been here about two weeks and I am fairly new to civ2.

My problem is. I tried to save the GOTM 20, but I couldnt bring it up. Could someone please tell me how to go about this.

I assume you mean to download from here.

What browser are you using?

If you can download anything else, you should be able to download these. Sometimes we have a regular .sav download, sometimes it's a .zip download. Tell us more about the problem.

ok, in IE you RIGHT click and select "save as".So,right click and hold on the .sav link. Then select "save as".It should be ready to go.Make sure you know where you saved it to so you can find it :D

I assume you have a zip utility like winzip(free from download.com).You don't need it to get the GotM 20 .sav file, but you should have it for zip files which seem to be the most used compression format.

I often find the file will save automatically as "attachment.php" and seem completely useless... However if I rename the file "attachment.zip" or "attachment.sav" it usually works.

I've created a GOTM folder in my civ2 file so I can find it easily. You aren't usinf ToT are you? The save files (unfortunately) don't work with that version, so I have ToT and teh Classic Civ2 installed.

Civ2 can open a file anywhere, but it will be most convenient to put the file where the Civ2 Load Game Dialog expects it. Jayne's suggestion, to create a directory under Civ2, is a good one. I create a separate folder each month.

freedomrik, it sounds like you're making good progress. So remember this, when you start playing. Save at 1AD and 1000AD, and also just BEFORE the game ends. Then EMail DoM@Civfanatics.net on or before 5th October. Complete information on rules, no cheating etc, is here: www.civfanatics.com/civ2gotm.shtml

Welcome to the fun! This month is a greate game!

Thanks gang. I succeded at the task at hand.

so when I'm done with the game I send all three saved files..1ad 1000ad and at the end?

Yes, freedomrik, the 1AD and 1000AD are "snapshots" of your game that we all compare for the more amusing special awards for GOTM games. The last one is a save just BEFORE you win so the judges can verify your final "raw" score. There is a formula they use to calculate a weighted GOTM score, which seems to emphasize earlier finishes more that the standard score.
