NOTE: This Instruction set only applies to the PTW game versions.

We have had a couple of reports of game crashes in the PTW version of the game when you reach the stage of the game where swordsman could possibly appear.

We have had reports related only to the Bushi units but I have included the other two possible initialization files just to make sure you have thme in case they are needed at some future time.

Swordsmen in this game will function just the same as they always function in a standard game but could be replaced by Civ Specific animations that give the game more of a unique Asian flavor. This is just designed to give you a little more fun while doing exactly the same things you would normally do.

NOTE: This Instruction set only applies to the PTW game versions.

If you encounter one of these game crashes they can be bypassed by switching out the initialization files for the unit in question and replacing the xxxx.ini file with one of the files enclosed in the zip attachment to this message.

The files are small (2kb) and easy to replace you just need to pay attention and make sure you have the correct unit. You will find the units in your .../Civilization III/art/units/ folder not tucked down in the scenario or in the PTW duplicate locations.

If you are at all concerned that you might get the crash, just replace the three files with these versions. Even if you do not need the replacements, you will not hurt anything by putting the replacements in place if you put them in the correct unit folders.
NOTE: This Instruction set only applies to the PTW game versions.

Sorry but still does not seem to work. Exactly what I did was: I took the INI file you provided and copied it into CivIII/Arts?Units/Bushi folder (I renamed the old file) Then I started the program loaded my game at the stage when it crashed and tried to upgrade a warrior to bushi. The same mesasge as before and crash. ???

It was not exactly the same. This time, it's written

FILE NOT FOUND

ART\UNITS\BUSHI\BushiDefaultNF.flc

I just checked and this file is not in the folder.

:)
I tried again after tracing the fate of PediaIcons file (I had two versions from two downloads of the setup program) and looks like it is working now.
If crashes again I will let you know

Hope this isn't too far OT.

I don't quite unsderstand the README info about the text file for PTW. As I have played GOTM 21-23 the only text file I can find is in the 21 folder not the 24 folder.Am I to replace the one in the 21 folder or just place it in the 24?

Check this thread.

We officially have too many posts scattershooting off into different directions here and this the reason that I ask that you contact me by PM so we can sort these out with minimal confusion.

Some of these posts are from people who had the original download of the setup package that was truncated in the server upload process and ended up missing some files.

If you downloaded and setup for the PTW_add_on before October 1st you may have this problem. The Current download pack does not seem to have this problem.

Again, I urge you to try and help the process by contacting me by PM so I can sort out the issues of who may have missed a piece of the setup versus who may have another technical problem that I can address.

WE can solve any problems that can be sorted out. A gaggle of problems overloads me to the point of virtual shut down on a name specific basis.

I experienced the same problems at first. I then downloaded the entire PTW_add_on again and played the entire game without problems. (Thanks for your quick reply, Cracker). My suggestion to anyone having the problem with upgrading warriors: download and install the PTW_add_on again and your problems will be gone. This investment of time for downloading is well worth it!! It's the best CIV3 game I have played so far! (Again thanks for your efforts, Cracker!).

Hoping cracker won’t whip me for this,
I encountered the same problem, but I’m not used to cry for help.

So I started by editing the .ini file a lot trying to change the link from bushi to another oriental flavoured unit. This failed constantly and when I checked CFC, nobody cried about it and there was no announcement. That sounded weird and I did some more editing, without any result.

Finally, this morning I gave up and…
logged to CFC, looked for the darn unit myself, downloaded the zip into my \units folder, unzipped it and voila, my campaign against my neighbors was ready to start.
FWIW the unit is gorgeous, try fortifying it.

Just to remphasize that if the little tiny files do not fix the problem for you in PTW, you may need to redownload the gotm24_PTW_add_on_setup.exe file that was revised at 5AM EST on October 1st.

The first version of the auto installer had some files that got truncated on upload but we are receiving clear indications form experienced players that this latest version does not experience the "Bushi crash" of the "Pictish Warrior" crash that can indicate the missing files.

Cracker,

I have already downloaded the updated files for the GOTM but it also didn't work, showing the same error.

However, I'll try it once more, by first deleting/overwriting the old files, and see if it works.

If it still does not work, I'll download the version for Civ3 vanilla 1.29 (huge download with all the stuff since Gotm21) and play the game on the vanilla.

Thanks for all the effort to fix the problem.

EDIT: Erasing some game-related discussion that is not allowed here.

Keiselhorn,

This plan sounds like more scattershooting.

Again, trying to solve the problem with your individual game here in the public forum is absolutely the wromg approach. It slows me down in helping you and has the opposite effect of what you desire.

The game setup is clearly working but something is different in a few game setups and I need to help you find it out.

If this solution needs to be shared with the world I will do it promptly.

What we want to avoid is public spilling of too much detail about the game because it disrupts the game experience for other players.

Each time you do this, I sort of drop you to the bottom of the problem solving queue while I work with other players who follow my instructions. No one is being neglected or left behind.

Be patient and help me follwo the process that I have outlined for you in three separate comminications. Forcing me to repeat myself basicly stealls resources from solving your problem so we can get you back on track which is the only real objective.
