Gotm71 Spoiler

I think I'm going to bring it home waaay before 1 AD with an early horse raid on the Greeks+destroying Chinese and Sioux right off the bat with an early trireme (or two...) of ellies. The horseman can even take out the Romans with luck.

The real crunch on this map isn't the Sioux or Chinese, it's the basterdous Germans. I need a fresh approach to that problem, then I think I've got a very early conquest on my hands :D.

Summary I conquered Greeks and Romans. Aztecs are for now a trading partner. I have not even reached the other guys yet. I got impatient and built Marco, though not as the first wonder. I just switched to Republic to take advantage of growth through celebration while my troops position themselves.

Errr.... win? Conquered 500 AD

Went overkill in the end, couldn't find the Sioux & Chinese where they 'should' have been. Wounded Knee is half the map away from where Little Bighorn is... threw me off course a little bit. And also, the same again with Nanking... So in future, will make sure I swap maps instead of going all out aggressive

But that's my first ever GOTM attempt :) Def. room for improvement!!! :crazyeye:

My hats off to you bunch of upkeep-free torch wavers! It's a blast to see that this perfect game still has a following. I warmed up my skills with a SSC on a belated Ringworld GotM, then tried this month's with an "early" conquest by pushing to Crusaders and rolling over the AI. It got very dull manuervering the hoard of units, most of which never saw action as the crest of the wave took civ after civ. But my 1300AD conquest is pitiful versus the 500 BCs I'm reading here!

I like the GotM format, but I wish there was a bit more info regarding the goal or theme of each map. Ringworld was very unique, requiring long supply lines... but what was the point of this one? A single land mass on Prince level? Conquest seems too easy a goal and even interstellar coloniztion isn't difficult with the tame AI. Was this one a time trial primarily?

Just trying to figure out the zen of GotM. Happy new year!

I finished the game in a force retirement in 2020 AD with 3 wonders and a size of 23. I have destroyed the greek but I wasn't able to do more after. Not to bad for a firts OCC game. I may do a better game but this one was difficult for a OCC game.

Welcome to CFC and GOTM HooverDamned. Sometimes we play a game which have a story. There are also games which have no story (as this one). Then everybody has an opportunity to play as they like (early conquest/early landing/power democracy/etc.).

Summary:With a switch to Republic just before year +1 my focus shifted to growth and expansion. I positioned my forces near Viking cities and tried to provoke them by demanding tribute every other turn, but they never attacked me; must have been the prince level. I neglected to put any forces near other rivals. After the discovery of the techs I was eager to get (Explosives, Sanitation, and Democracy) and building some essential wonders I went for Fundamentalism and swithced with an immediate revolution in +700. Vikings were destroyed in +740. Only then I realized my mistake and that it is going to take me a while to reposition my forces. I made some fresh units and used some spare ones kept around the heart of my empire to attack Aztecs. It turned out they were pretty well defended but they were also gone by +900. Getting to the Chinese and Sioux took longer. I managed to get both their capitals by +1000 and using statue of liberty revolted and established democracy the next turn. The remaining cities with the exception of a size 1 Sioux city were bought out withing the next few turns. I went back to expansion and growth mode which became boring real fast. I ended in 1200 because I was just too bored and tired to go on.

I started this game over the New Years holiday, just to kill some time before GOTM72 came out. I didn’t figure I would finish it, even with the small map and low degree of difficulty.

However, when I got a start like this, it was pretty easy to keep it going and get through to the end. There were many other huts (units, barbs, gold, tech) that are not listed, but the ones here led to cities.

I went for the conquest.
Small map and I see coast, so it stands to reason some civs will be quicker to get to across the water. Need at least 2 triremes: 1 to go across Nth Pole, the other across Sth Pole.

2000BC: 3 cities: Babylon, Nineveh on river to NE, Ur to SE. Making settlers in each.

1500BC have 4 cities: Ashur on river E of Nineveh. Have met Greeks, Romans and am building 4 elephants + just about to pop a hut SW of Babylon (which gave me a 5th city in 1450BC). Will build triremes after this. There is probably someone to the north and the others will be found by sea.

1000BC: Have 7 cities, all making elephants, plus 2 triremes ready to take elephants west.

750BC: Have 11 cities, incl captured Athens, Veii + 2 from nomads. Making knights & settlers in them all. Found Chinese & Sioux across sea to NW. Chinese + Aztecs destroyed. The dark blue must be across sea to SW.

600BC: 15 cities. Little Bighorn & Wounded Knee captued + Lagash nr Vikings from popped hut. Romans have another city (at least), which I suspect is NE of Rome (captured), up the river. Am approaching Vikings from both sides. All others destroyed.

550BC: Have knights right outside last 2 Viking cities. Will just found cities with remaining couple of settlers, as will end game next turn (barring terrible mishap attacking cities). Have had around 200 gold for a while, so maybe bribery would have been faster.

Hello Old Timers !!
Have been BUSY , and had not much chance to play CIV .
In December I downloaded game 70 but could never finish it...
Downloaded Game 71 , last Thursday and played overnight Saturday and Sunday , I am aware that the Deadline has pass today is January 8th..., anyhow , I sent my " Fast " game , today .
I will understand the game may be disqualified, because of the time Frame, and I understand if that the case.
Was a beautiful and fast game for me...learned a new trick....Im not taking notes every turn , but using a Tape recorder to keep a log...made it faster ...then I can type my log in an hour... :)
Hope everyone has a great NEW YEAR!!
I am here to download game 72 , hopefully I will have more time to play in January...

Im also posting my LOG ,again up to Duke to admit my game.
