GOTM92 - Final Spoiler

I don't completely understand. Isn't stuffing military into the city, where you want the palace to go, the only means of influencing the jump?

There are three terms:
  • Number of adjacent cities (17x17 tiles) times three
  • Population, where own nationality counts triple
  • Military units

Found some cities around the designated new capital, preferably at RCP5. Have some Settlers and/or Workers of your own nationality join the it. Then cram in what military is needed and/or can be spared and do the jump.

You might regret at this point having ICS-d your original core.

  • Thanks a lot, this is the factor that I didn't know about. Now it makes perfect sense. Even though I did not exactly ICS my core, I had a tight ring at RCP3 and several more at distance 5-7, resulting in a high number of cities in the original core.

I guess I should have revisited the Military Academy, I think there is an article about the Palace Jump mechanics, isn't there? Then I could have "temporarily ICSed" the target core and made the jump much earlier...

@PaperBeetle: Funny, how we both got an early demand from Arabia and enjoyed WH for the rest of the game...
One question: why did you go for Math first? Isn't it better to have Republic as early as possible? I'm sure you could have reached Rep around 1100BC?! (Instead of 750BC.)
Actually, I passed up the WH when I gave Abu peace at the same time as my first war with Greece. Not sure why I did that; I even had to pay for peace. I think maybe I had some idea that Greece would give Arabia ROP I would be at the mercy of ansars. At least the WH goes on ice, so I got it back at the end of the game.
As for Maths, I always work on the principle of getting it out to the AI as soon as possible, so they can work on Construction and Currency. In C3C I would go for the slingshot first of course, but in PtW I tend to prioritise Maths. Maybe that wasn't the correct move; you did reach the medieval before me, after all.

One of the most recurring dilemmas in the ancient age is:
"When will the AI research Currency and Construction for me?"
"Do I go for Currency myself or do I save cash?" (Most AIs choose Construction over Currency so the latter is likely to get a higher trade value.)
"If I choose to stop research, will I lose my monopoly on Republic?"
"Do I want to research Currency myself so that I don't have to trade Republic for Currency and Construction? (I may need a monopoly on Republic when it's time to trade MA techs from scientific civs.)

Therefore, the Math research is interesting, providing of course that one instantly gives Math away. It is likely to speed up the AI research of C & C.
