Turning Right ...
I like Communism, when they fix the corruption thing that is apparently messed up, it will be even better. Democracy is ok, but it is not good for large empires, with spread out colonies, as I like to do.

The preferred and shunned governments have absolutely no effect on how your civ will perform. Preferred and shunned govs only affect the AI's attittude toward you. If you're in their preferred gov, their attitude is a little better, if you're in their shunned gov, their attitude a little worse.Originally posted by Jan Mistique
I usually go for the preferred government of the Civ that I'm playing...
...I'm not sure how a Civ is affected by having the 'wrong' type of government. Any ideas?

Jan Mistique, especially since Conquests was released, one of the few things that most civ players can agree upon is that all government types are better than despotism (once you've learned how to use Democracy & Republic). [/QUOTE
Usually, I don't play with government types other than Republic or Democracy. Since I wasn't sure if or how not having a preferred governemnt affected a civ (I know now though), I have tended to go with civs whose preferred governments I liked! Very rarely have I strayed from this. On PTW, I did go over to the Republic with a civ who liked Communism and they immediately went in to a long lasting revolt despite having temples etc. It must have been a coincidence.
It might be a good idea for some tangible penalty to be extracted if you force your civ to tolerate a government they don't particularly like. I'm not sure whether my citizens not liking me is much to worry about! I'm not even accountable at election time! Now you'll tell me why I should worry!
I am enjoying trying the various governments and although playing C3C, I did surprisingly well with Despotism before going over to Communism! There wasn't any problems with growth or happiness. What I don't like about Communism is that any rush buying seems to be done at the cost of population. This is OK where there's overcrowding but obviously not so good where growth is needed.
