What Government do u use/think is the best, and why.

I always try to get into and stay in Democracy asap. Reduced corruption and faster research, more gold, etc.

Wars can be tough, but if you keep them under 15 turns you are generally OK. Just never sign MPP's, and use alliances sparingly. If you do an alliance, you are obligated to 20 turns of war, and WW can really take a toll.

I think Democracy is probably the "best" simply because of the numbers. It has all the biggest advantages.

However, I prefer Monarchy right up to the end of the game and I'm not even a warmonger (had all the victories except conquest and domination.) There are many thing I enjoy about Monarchy, like military police. When you are at war and some other pathetic AI civ joins the war against you its simply no big deal as opposed to "Oh no, this war could last a long time!" When the other civs begin building Universal Suffrage you say, "Who cares?" :D I have found ways to keep up in tech and have fun even without the outrageous amount of income you get from Democracy. Of coruse, I only play on Regent because I hate knowing the AI is getting lots of free advantages.

I like Democracy mostly because of the FAST worker and high income.

what do u think about communism?

I usually end up with democracy. For me the benefits outweigh the WW, but I usually end wars quickly enough that WW doesn't become a problem. Since I play the Persians the commercial benefits outweigh the faroff corruption which takes a long time for me to see as I play on the astoundingly HUGE map size. :D

Communism, if you perfectly played a map to a very exact specification, you might squeeze a little advantage out of communism. However, to make that actually happen on 1 in 1000 maps, I'd say it's not worth it. Trouble is that you have to build up your empire's infrastructure evenly under another government form and then all of a sudden switch gears (and fairly late in the game mind you) and be more productive nationally. If you have done that, then you have run the other government unproductively for quite some time and probably will never recapture the lost production form the earlier turns in the game that you spent grooming your Communist setup. IMO.

The big question I face is whether the switch from Republic to Democracy is worth the anarchy period for a non-religious civ. For example, I am playing a Deity game as the Americans (feeling even more patriotic than usual) on a Large/high-land map. I have the FP built with two fully developed rings around my capital and one-and-a-half fully developed rings around the FP (ahhhhh, when the farmer gambit works, it's a beautiful thing). It's ~350AD and I'm thinking about swapping to Democracy. I'm at tech parity, the world is getting ready to enter the Industrial Age (so there's not a wonder chase at the moment), I'm pulling down 400-500 gpt (depending on tech purchase payments), and I have quite a few workers. In such a situation, is the value of slightly-faster workers (America's already Industrious) and a bit less corruption worth 5-8 turns of anarchy?

P.S. Ironically, France is my nearest neighbor. Although I decided to limit myself to not fighting any battles outside my territory (except whatever the bare minimum might be necessary to acquire a needed resource), I'm seriously thinking about wiping them out as symbolic retribution for their interference in the Iraq situation.

Reagan, well from experience I'd say no, I have done this and then got into long war later on, remember, even if you don't have to drop out of democracy war weariness creeps up fast enough that you might be more productive under republic during much of the war. You may decide to behave peacefully but you have no guarantee that the AI will follow suit. I'd say it's safer to say in republic, it can take you up to 50 turns to recover the production losses of 5-8 turns of anarchy. That's not to say that in some games it might work out for the best, but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.

Your analysis mirrors what I was thinking, CB. I think having the already-fast Industrious workers makes it even easier to stay in Republic, but that even non-Industrious civs probably shouldn't make the switch under most circumstances. Religious civs can be more flexible with their swaps, obviously.

Communism..

Great if you have a large army and you plan to go on the offensive against a strong overseas enemy...

Even better if they are a democracy..

you can keep on fighting even when they are plunged into cival anarchy..

Democracy just becomes to expensive if you have a large standing army and just negates any extra production you might gain in a democracy. It is much better suited to a small highly mobile defensive army in times of peace.

My thoughts anyway...

err by production I mean in the way of taxes/science/luxuries..

Communism is lotsa fun! I like democracies/republics the most, but communism is awsome in this one map I'm playing right now. Corruption is slightly lower then when I'm in democracy, and I'm fighting an impossible war so the weariness was up the roof (and I had police stations everywhere, and I had Universal Suffrage, oh lord!).

Yeah usually communism sucks but for once it's usefull!

DAMNIT BEING A commy red RULZ! I am a warmonger so lets take the Advantage -Disadvatages for both Demo and Comm.

Demo

NO UNIT PAYMENT

Ok so i have 500 tanks rolling around to protect you why? You wont pay for any of them and the gold increase from faster work and less coruption is marginal.

War Weariness

I dont care if your tired of the war! IT AINT OVER YET! SO dont go tearin down my city imps! War weariness just sucks even with sufferage wich the AI usaly cascades to.

Advatages

More gold

*yawn* Not enough to make a dfference and it is IMOThat when you got godl is when the AI's tend to demand from you.

And i really cant think of anything else other than no coruption (i have little of that anyways.)

Communisim

Disadvatage

Slow workers even slower for non industrious.
Non that matter to me as by the tiem i am commy i will rule half the world and be movign on to the other half.
Advatages

My cities tend to go metro quickley so i am getting 8 units for the war! thats right EIGHT(8)! 2 modern armors stay for defense in my cities and 6 go to war!

Happiness

Ok so lets say i have some unhappy citizens? Lets make them LESS happy by forceing them into service as a worker OR a conscript and send them to the slaughter house (the enemy ai).
2 cons per turn in each citie is a good defense for that citie. Even better for outlying cities. Just make sure you dont go overboard so they dont riot. Happy is easy to manage.

Coruption

The theft is low because they fear my wrath! Comunal coruption RULEZ!

As you can see i like to be a commy. The swich is worth it if you are a war monger.
